We've been rubbed at home. We had a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop that has been stolen. Our insurance company is asking us to find out what would be the equivalent today. We've called Dell and we've been told that it would be E520. Insurance company doesn't seem to agree. Can someone confirm us what would be recplacing our Dimension 4700?

Thank you very much :)

I have a DELL dimension 4600 pc. The hard drive crashed Christmas so I just got a new tower. I was gonna sell the DELL tower for parts or to someone who can fix it. It has Windows XP, CD/DVD burner. And the only thing wrong is the hard drive is shot. How much should I ask for it?

I have a P4 3GHz system with 512MB of Ram installed (PC2700). I installed a PC3200 1GB which is backward compatible with the PC2700 and it seemed to work fine for a while, I even checked the General tab in the System Properties window and it showed that I had 1.5GB of RAM installed. All of a sudden the computer just rebooted itself and it would either reboot itself right before starting windows or it would freeze. Only one time it gave me the chance to restart it in safe mode from where it gave me an error with the video card. So I removed the 1GB memory card and now everything is back to normal however I want to be able to install more memory (it can take up to 3GB). The error I got was Error: Stop 0X000000EA Thread_Stuck_In_Device_Driver (Q293078). Should I upgrade my video card since ATI doesn't seem to have any upgrades for my card (Radeon 9200SE 128MB) and see if that fixes the problem or should I exchange the memory card?

Just recently I put my older Dell hard drive into a newer system I built. It's built correctly, so no need to take that into consideration. All the parts are compatible because they worked perfectly fine with another hard drive. My problem is that the thing boots, goes to t he windows loading bar, throws the blue screen of death, and restarts, constantly doing this. I did a repair install, a chkdsk, everything I could think of. It still gives me the blue screen. Anyone know what's going on?

I know a lot of older dells have proprietary motherboards. I have a Dimension 4500 and I'm looking to upgrade the motherboard and CPU. Can I use my dell case or do I have to start from scratch?

Hi, im planning on buying a dell this year, but i would like to buy one from the dell outlet because i can save a few bucks that way, but i was wondering if buying a "dent and scratch" computer is actually ok i know it says that they are in perfect working order but im not willing to spend $600 if its going to break, so i was wondering if anyone has boughten a "dent and scratch" computer, and if they do in fact have no performance flaws. The last computer i bought was in 2004 and i bought a referbished from dell, it works perfect and i have never had a problem with it, but i noticed now they have "dent and scratch" so i was just wondering if those computers actually work as well as they claim them to. Thanks!

I don't know a thing about computer and now that i'm shopping for a new one these paticular symbols have stumped me. I know they have something to do with the clock speed of the computer, but can anyone explain the difference between the two and tell me what a 'Good' number is?

I am wanting to get to the end of this but do not know how! My computer just seems sluggish and I just don't know what the problem could be.I want it to be as fast as it was when Ifirst installed XP if possible!
Here is some info about my computer

1024 mb ram - 160 gb hdd - pentium 4 ht (hyper threading) - 550w power supply - spire cpu cooler (heatsink) i think its for p4 775 - 64mb graphics adapter (is this poor even though i do not play games? ) - windows xp home service pack 2 - broadband connection (even though irrelevant to pc speed itself)

A few programs used on the computer

AVG anti-virus - Firefox - WMP 11 - Quicktime - Nero 6 - Spybot S&E - BT applications for my broadband - IE7 - Registry Mechanic - Zone Alarm Firewall - Microsoft Office 2003 - Winamp

I constantly run checks for spyware and virus's on my computer but never find any, even on other software brands.

I want to solve the problem, as my pc's performance is not living up to.

I will appreciate your response

When I shut down my computer from the desktop or the tower a few seconds later it turns back on by itself, the only way I can get it to stay off it to unplug it, does anyone have any idea why my computer does this?

I recently had to reinstall the OS on my Dell Dimension 8300 desktop. After going throught the tedious process of installing all of the drivers and updates for all of the devices and peripherals, one still remains disabled in the Device Manager window.

Device Manager show a yellow question mark next to OTHER DEVICES. Expanding that leads to another yellow question mark next to MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER.

The Soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card works okay.
The Conextant modem works okay.
The Hauppage PVR-150 audio/video capture card works okay.

I don't know what else is left.

How can I find out exactly what device this is?

Thanks.

This computer is about 5 years old, but is in good shape. Has plenty of hard drive space, ram, etc. Have not had many other problems with it other than space in the past few years and have fixed that by reformatting. This actually happened to me when I first got the computer and cannot remember how Dell CS helped me fix it over the phone. I have tried a system restore to a few days previous, but that didnt help. The top drive which is just a CD-RW will not open and its yellow light is on. The bottom drive opens and spins discs, but to no avail. Both are currently recognized in the device manager as being working properly. I have tried updating drivers but was told no updates were available. When the computer starts I get an error message before Windows loads stating that my Secondary Hard Disk 0 and Secondary Hard Disk 1 cannot be recognized. I am assuming these are my disk drives, as my C, F, G, and H (hard drives) are all currently recognized and accessible. Please help!!!

I just recently pulled a hard drive from a computer I used for a good while, in hopes to upgrade the hardware I was using. I went from a dell dimension 2400, to a home-built system. The dell was running 2.2ghz, 512mb ddram, 2 40GB hard drives(which were switched to the new system), as well as the two cd drives which I moved over as well. The new system is 2.4ghz, 786MB pc-133mhz ram, unsure of the type, I do know it's all the same kind in the system however. It's got a goofy SiS video card, an older model with the proper drivers installed. After the switchover, it started randomly freezing, I just reinstalled windows (without formatting) and am currently doing a chkdsk. Any ideas to why it was and possibly will still be randomly freezing?

Thanks

I was just on the net reading the news today then I miminized it then I saw that I didn't have my picture as my background anymore! All I can do now is pick colors as a background, the pictures are all "blanked out" (you know how it's faded so when you click it's useless) and so is the browse button. If it helps I'm on windows xp.
