I'm in the market for a new desktop computer. I'm not into gaming or anything, I mainly just use Microsoft Office and the Internet. I'm a college student who's on a budget, and I already have a new monitor and printer, so I would just need the computer itself. Does anybody have any ideas for me? Brand preferences or brands to avoid? Rebate information? Thank you!

I have an emachines with Windows XP and a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Processor. 1024 Mb RAM. And It keeps turning off.. alot. I thought it had something to do with the electricity in our house. Because if my parents turn on a coffee pot, light, microwave etc my computer will turn off. If nearly every single thing is off, it will work for hours. Also any other thing I plug in the same plugs (we have tried many around the house) they all work fine. TV's, Radio's etc all work perfect. So I am trying to determine is it the computer, is there a setting I can change, or is it most likely the electricity/breakers?

I have a Board: Intel Corporation D845HV AAA63929-308. I currently have a Pentium 4 1.6 GHz CPU. I bought a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz CPU. I would like some clear instructions on manually replacing it myself without screwing it up. Can someone instruct me or lead me in the right direction.

Thanks!

So what is the recommendation from the experts? Upgrade to Vista from XP or just wait until you're ready to buy a new one if it's still out?

When she tries to load up from the A:/ drive it prompts her with (paraphrasing): I am not formatted, wanna format me? Caution, I might delete all your crap.

What should she do. The info on the disk is EXTREMELY imprtant.

I don't know much about a computer. I do know I have not downloaded many programs. The desktop has DSL but is so slow it takes so much time to do anything. Sometimes it just freezes and I have to unplug it. I have an antivirus connected. What I have just said is all I know about a computer. Can anyone help me using easy terms? Thank you so much.

There was a bit of a mess and it got knocked off the table. It's one of the flat white ones, it tipped over backwards and landed on the floor, knocking out the power cord. Now when I try to turn it on, the front light blinks and it gives three loud beeps, and the fan runs loudly. Did I completely ruin it?
