Because pen drives use flash memory that have no moving parts they tend to last at least 5 years as long as you look after them. I have worked in a IT department that services 6000 users and have only seen 2 fail in 3 years.

Use it properly and you have that Pen Drive after 2 years :D

keep it sealed in a package and it can last for as long as u like. use it regularly and it can be used for several years. i've seen some that were used daily for over 2 years with no problems. thing is there are no mechanics inside to fail, so rust or power surges are the only things that can damage it most of the time.

they are like hard disks .....
You can defragment them by my comp right click removable disk -> properties ->tools defragment
