I recently had to reinstall the OS on my Dell Dimension 8300 desktop. After going throught the tedious process of installing all of the drivers and updates for all of the devices and peripherals, one still remains disabled in the Device Manager window.

Device Manager show a yellow question mark next to OTHER DEVICES. Expanding that leads to another yellow question mark next to MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER.

The Soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card works okay.
The Conextant modem works okay.
The Hauppage PVR-150 audio/video capture card works okay.

I don't know what else is left.

How can I find out exactly what device this is?

Thanks.

Check for the audio driver, if not sure visit www.support.dell.com select your product type and model no. or put in your computers service tag for the latest driver,if you are still not sure try the chat support.

It sounds like it has an older driver for the audio card and you have to go to downloads.com or microsoft website and download the updated driver for the device. Once the new driver is installed it will go away. right click on the yellow question mark and it will bring up a list, it should tell you what its for and then get your old driver disk and look it up and install the updated driver for it. Take care Heather

Your Audigy card may have turned off/disabeled your on board sound system. Just a guess. I did not like audigy and it lies on my self as a dust catcher
