how often are you formatting it?...once a month is fine...but if its very frequent then it puts a lot of load on your Hard Drive....plus you have toload all the software and do the system settings all over which a real pain in the @$$

If you mean formatting the hard drive over and over, the only real harm is in the wear on the drive. It is actually good to format them occassionally as that gets rid of unlinked junk file fragments that nothing else will.

Reformatting will restore it to a perfect condition, at least the software, but the hard where will take a beating. You magnetize and demagnetize it over and over. Take a piece of metal and bend it back and fourth a lot, see what happens.
