ok so i check my ram but it didnt say any was free it still says the same 384mb am trying to get to 512m

then buy more ram 384 will always be 384 you need to buy more ram to get to 512 and ms config is not for every day running

You don't free up RAM, you free up resources.

Your RAM is 384 MB (I assume a 256, 128 and a 64 MB set of sticks). You could yank that 64 and replce it with a 128 and have 512 of RAM.

You are looking at the General tab under Properies, right? Check Performance tab...that shows how much available RAM you have in percentage...if you have less than 50%, you need to use MSCONFIG and stop the load of of stuff you don;t need runing.

try out System Mechanic it has an option of defraging and freeing up ram...
