a few months ago when i returned off holiday and pluged my pc back into the mains i noticed the power button on pc did not work first time and i had to wait about 10 seconds before it did, i knew the battery had gone because time/date had reset, but stupid me did not replace it. then a couple of weeks ago the above happened again when i returned off holiday but again continued to work. then last night i unplugged pc by mistake and when i tried to turn it on this morning the fans and drives powered up but no signal was sent to the monitor and no beeps so i am assuming post did not start. i attemted to restart on a few occasions but now nothing happens when i switch on, no drives or fans ect, but there is power to motherboard led. could the battery now be total flat and with no bios could it prevent pc from starting. i am new to this and probably got it tottaly wrong can anyone please help

The motherboard can handle up to 4gb 800mhz, or 8gb of 667mhz ram. Which would be a better choice for building my gaming system, and why?

So I had a spare computer downstairs with no hard drive. When I take the HD out of another computer the it freezes when it says "computer did not start corretly" or whatever. if I try to start normally it just freezes. if I try safe mode it freezes at "agpcpq.sys". Now when I take the same HD and put it back in it original computer it loads up fine. its something with the spare computer. Any suggestions??

Hi. I'm doing some research on buying a power supply for my new computer. My problem is, is that I want a power supply with a rear vent and a vent on the bottom too. But as I look, I see that there are only vents on the back and on the top. These PSU's with the vent on the top, can I always flip them upside down when installing them in my case so they become bottom vents?

I get a message saying something like Error Reading Disk. I tried rebooting with the Windows XP disk that came with my computer. It gave me 2 options: Install Windows XP or repair Windows XP. If I pick the repair option, I just get a DOS type prompt (C:\) with a heading that says type EXIT and press Enter to restart the computer. Doing that just leads to the original error message.

If I pick the Install Windows XP option, it tells me that my hard drive has 1 partition with the name [unknown] with 79 GB space, and all 79 GB is free. It asks if I want to install Windows in this partition. I did not dare say yes when I saw that all 79 GB is free.

What are my options for recovering my precious data?

HI

I happened to have an old HP LC2000 Server, installed with
one PIII-933 CPU.

I managed to find another old server CPU which is PIII-866.

I wonder if I can install the said PIII-866 CPU onto the LC2000
Mother-board... (which means PIII-933 + PIII-866 on board) ?

Thanks!

Regards
Francis Goh

I want to get into build my own computer from the components up, but don't know that much about it. What should I know? What could I do wrong causing expensive damage to motherboards and other equipment? What components are the best? Is it difficult, time consuming, etc.? How do you initially install an operating system, do you just put the windows disk in and turn it on? Is there anyway I can screw this up?
