So I had a spare computer downstairs with no hard drive. When I take the HD out of another computer the it freezes when it says "computer did not start corretly" or whatever. if I try to start normally it just freezes. if I try safe mode it freezes at "agpcpq.sys". Now when I take the same HD and put it back in it original computer it loads up fine. its something with the spare computer. Any suggestions??

I'm not sure I understand your question.

However

Microsoft Windows will only install into one computer.

It may work for the 30 days until Activation is required but after that it will fail if it has been Activated on another computer.

Another thought: I would suspect the computer that is giving you trouble has either a faulty HDD or Mainboard.

the chipsets are different in the computer's motherboards.

Lets say you have computer ABC w/ a 123 motherboard... you buy a new computer that has a 321 motherboard - you cant pull the HDD out of the original and plant it in the new one because the motherboard's chipsets are different making the system image different. You'll get reboots/lock-ups, and mostly BSODs

You need to re-image it with the mobo youre gonna use.

The computer BIOS (basic in out system) has different settings. It is reading the BIOS for the correct computer & it is finding wrong configurations.

It wont work. You are better off buying a new hard drive, there are some small ones that are pretty cheap, look in walmart or best buy.

You likely have hardware that is not compatible with Windows XP. On the PC that boots fine, you have all the drivers set up for it, so it boots normally. When you take the HDD to the other PC, XP assumes you still have the same hardware configuration, but in reality you do not.

Check with the Microsoft HCL (Hardware Compatability List) at their webpage to ensure the hardware in the non-booting PC will work with XP.

Good luck!

Okay this will sound like a cheap answer, but switch over to a Mac. I never thought I would, but now I feel like all I was doing when I had a PC was wasting time.

I used to be a hardcore windows fan and thought that Macs were impotent pieces of crap, but now that I've switched i'll never go back, ever. You wouldnt be having those kinds of problems :)

Each install of windows is custom to the computer it was installed on. The only way you can succesfully get what your trying to do to work without reinstalling windows is to place the hard drive in an identical computer.

thats a common issue when you move from one machine to another (h.d.d) it can case problems
for example i use a p3 and a p4 (xp on the p3, freespire on the p4) and as the chipsets are different windows will throw a wobbler at you,
my advice is to reinstall windows on the other machine,
p.s. second compter specs could help (cpu and ram(

but to the pepole who say stuff is not XP compatible there are sites showing xp running on 80486 computers
also it is possible to swap the hard disk from an xp system on some BX440 chipset mobo's as they are identical boards (just different manufacturers)

that is probable because you probably did it on your pc, not his. The motherboard, were the device BIOS is positioned, would not understand the kind of BOOT document it truly is on the hardchronic. Now that the viruses are lengthy previous, try getting yet another boot CD, or acquire a Linux OS, like Ubuntu. you're going to ought to deploy it with the hardchronic in his pc, not your man or woman.

You have some major components in your PC that are not WIN XP compatible. Compare your hardware with that in the WINDOWS CATALOG. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog . Your PC might not be meeting the minimum hardware requirements.

Good luck.
