How can i turn the DMA ON in my HP DVD740, though i tried BIOS and control Panel/systems/hardware/devicemanager still NERO INFO shows DMA OFF. What have i done wrong? do i need a new firmware? i have been searching for new firmware but its known that HP dont have new firmware available. Please I need answer THANK YOU!

First of all try connecting the burner with a 40pin 80 conductor wire rather than the 40pin 40 conductor wire.

if that doesnt work then make sure that in the BIOS the mode is Auto for the burner else windows can't change the mode. Also make sure that dvd burner is not sharing the interface with any other device like hard disk or cd rom, well this is not much of a problem but some old cd roms force the other drive on the intreface to work in th PIO mode and thus DMA can't be enabled. There is no need to update the firmware.

Go to the device manager and tic on "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" then right tic on the "Primary IDE and then on Secondary IDE Channels" and tic "properties" then the Advanced Settings tab. Set device 0 and device 1 to "Auto Detection"and "DMA if available" options. Set both the channels the same way you should be ok then.
