Yesterday when I tried to boot up my PC, the computer would not boot, it would go to the windows loading screen then reboot. So my first thought was that the motherboard was shot so I called ASUS tech support and, they said before I send the motherboard in to remove parts one at a time to see if they we're causing the problem, and sure enough it was the sound card. I have to theories that either my Sound Card is shot or My PSU can't handle my equipment (I have been pushing it).

My Specs are as Followed:
Asus P5VD1 - X,
Pentium 4 3.2 ghz,
Seagate 160gb HD 7200 rpm,
1.5 GB Corsair Ram,
ATI 1600 pro Video Card 512mb,
420w PSU (Aspire),
Sony DVD- RW,
and the Sound Card is a Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 surround sound not sure the model but its about 3 years old.

My PC has started turning itself back on (restarting) whenever I click on Turn off in Windows. It has only started this today, and was fine yesterday. I have checked that the power button isn't stuck and obvious things like that. Anyone got any ideas what may be causing this?

I heard I can have (2) 512 mb cards running (like I do now) at the same time or (2) 1 gig cards at the same time, but not a 512 mb card and a 1 gig card like I want to. Is this true? It will cost me $300.00 to put 2 gig cards in the computer!

I have a three year old computer (desktop) with a AMD Duron 1.6Ghz processor. It has done me well for the last three years but has been getting increasingly sluggish recently. Now it is painful to use!

I have defragmented the hard disk and cleaned up un-needed files. However, I just spotted that I only have 256mb of RAM installed. Could this be the reason for the slowness?

Would it be worth investing in some more RAM for my home desktop and if so, how much would you recommend? How likely is that to improve the performance? Anything else I should consider?

Thanks!

I am not too technical with computers but I have seen the insides of different systems. I know there are differnt types of RAM but how do you tell the differences between them (like DDR and SDRAM, etc.) Please refer me to a website or tell me how I can determine which type is exactly what.
