Sounds like spy ware or a virus. This happened to me last week. I always keep a 'spare hard-drive" just for these situations. If capable, get an old hard-drive and install you OS on it and then put it in your computer as master drive and your main (affected) drive as a slave. boot up and run all your spy ware and virus software on the drive. Even if the files on the main drive appear to be corrupted, it is still fixable. If you don't want to do the above, take it to a shop- $85.00 to about $145.00 to repair!

will it start in safe mode
if it will do virus scan
or might just be knackered
