Had the same problem, Its a corrupt boot sector on your hard drive.
Put in your xp setup disk and boot up via the cd, once you get to the options press "r" to go into recovery console. once that is open type "FIXBOOT" press return, windows will now try and rewrite a boot sector to your hdd, this should work if not i'm afraid the only other option is to reformat and start from scratch.

try selecting the different options using your key board. is your keyboard/mouse PS2 or usb. usb is not recognised until windows boots fully. The clicking does not sound good and i think from your description indicates a hard drive failure has occurred or is imminent.it also could be a memory problem or a graphics problem. the more i think about it the worse it gets. try booting from your CD and using the repair consul.if nothing works as a last desperate act try reinstalling windows. good luck

Could be a hd boot loading problem, I've had this in the past, to solve it I downloaded the xp recover set of floppy disks from the Microsoft website and used the utilities on this to cure the problem. Then I would recommend you backup any important files immediately to CD just in case your hd is on its way out and not repairable.
Hope this helps.

I certainly hope your PC is still under warranty. I'm usually afraid of that clicking sound since it only indicates that your hardrive has gone bad. If its still under warranty i would suggest you have it replaced as soon as possible.
As for the reason of its failure, that would be the bigger mystery.
If you have another PC with a burner. You can download bootable diagnostic softwares that you can burn onto the CD to check your drive's status before sending the drive for replacement. Check the manufacturers website for it.

Did you happen to open up your computer and touch any hardware, change anything? Sounds like it's a hardware issue, overheating or something. I would have to actually hear the sound to know where it was coming from, diagnosis on some things are difficult via Internet chat.
