im at my friends house and his computer shuts down exactly like mine does when using msn live messenger with the webcam, thought on mine it was because its a 1.3 ghz amd, but his is pentium 4 any ideas why its doing this? no spyware or virus's

As far as I Can understand it happens if the computer is using the same IRQ for two different devices. The simplest way I can suggest you is to reinstall windows and all other software while keeping all the hardware still connected to the computer so that it can assign unique IRQ's to each device.

Alternative methods.
1) Disconnect all devices connected to the computer and remove, uninstall the device drivers of each device, then restart the computer and attach devices again and reinstall their drivers. this way the computer may be able to resolve the conflict between two devices using the same IRQ

Go to the webcam manufacturer's website and download the latest driver program for the webcam.

Re-install again, or download the latest updates, or call the manufacture. They will do a 1 for 1 replacement.

May not be compatible with the hardware or the software may be wrong for that type of motherboard. I made the best guess I could.

i guess you are using logitech webcam,....
if you are using it...
am sure its the prob with the dirver you installed
cause it happens often
