For a cpu will not be used for heavy gaming (office/internet etc type use), and not overclocked, which is better?

Sempron 2800+ w/256mb cache or Sempron 3000+ cpu with 128MB cache?

The Sempron 3000+ is a little more expensive but it has a lower cache- but is it better overall then the 2800?

Thanks!

Or how to fix it? If I save a file to the desktop, 2 icons appear. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the profile or something else. I'm running XP on this PC. My laptop also has XP but I don't have the issue on that one.

Just got my computer back from being serviced, had to get a new motherboard. Anyway now when I turn on my computer it asks if I want to boot up in Recovery Mode or Regular Windows XP home Edition. Never done this before. I would just like to computer to boot directly to windows when I turn it on but I can't figure out how to make it do that. I'm sure its a simple solution but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

For example, in their processors they use a name such as "Athlon x2 4000+" when the processor is really only 2.2Ghz not 4Ghz. I remember hearing something that says "it's like" 4Ghz even though the actual clock speed is 2.2Ghz. Maybe it really isn't though. This same naming concept applies to the majority of their processor names, not just the example I mentioned. Does anyone know why they use this or have a link that gives more information?

About a month ago I bought the GT5238E gateway computer. I really really like this computer, all but one thing. The graphics card is HORRIBLE. I want to play a game that requires a better video card (I'm going to get the ATI Radeon X1300 PRO 256 MB PCI express card). However it says that it the card wont work with a motherboard designed for AGP or PCI video cards. I really don't know what this means, at all. Can someone tell me what I need to do, or buy (besides a new computer!)

thanks- hp

it was already fast. just for computing. not about running fast internet connection or anything. it has windows xp. 512 memory. fast processor forgot exactly which. 3 4 or whatever was good last year anyway it was working fine. i think a virus got it? i tried a restore, didnt help. tried the defragment. didnt work. changed some settings for best performance. i know about computers. i can open up computers and know what everything is but never came across this problem before. im not sure if adding more memory could fix the problem unless the memory it has is somehow no good? do i need to change out the processor maybe with a new one? it takes maybe 15 minutes to start up now, and before it decided to become slow, it was already up and running after i pushed the on button. anyone know? fast computer went slow. verrrry slow. thanks

I've read that one guy did this using 2 6cm case fans because the motherboard/case design left him with no other choice.

Been a while since I've built my last computer from scratch, so I've lost track of what cards are good for the money. What can you get around the $100 range these days that'll be able to handle modern-day games (even if not necessarily w/ highest quality graphics)?

I currently have: AMD Athlon(tm) Processor
1.10 GHz 368 MB of Ram
and the OS is: Mocrosoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2
I want to update the system myself, but I don't know where to start and what steps are necessary before starting this process.
I've added memory, replaced fans and added components to my computer but I've never attempted to upgrade the system.
Should I try this myself or take it to a professional?
I'm not afraid to pop it open and work on it but upgrading is completely different I know.
Thanks
