For a cpu will not be used for heavy gaming (office/internet etc type use), and not overclocked, which is better?

Sempron 2800+ w/256mb cache or Sempron 3000+ cpu with 128MB cache?

The Sempron 3000+ is a little more expensive but it has a lower cache- but is it better overall then the 2800?

Thanks!

Definitely go for the higher cache.

There is a great deal of marketing strategy so far as the pricing ... the extra cache is actually a lot more expensive to integrate than an extra 200Mhz.

That is why they lowered the cache size & hope that people will believe that the extra speed is better.

I personally would not hesitate to take the model with more cache ANY DAY.

It is very easy to compare AMD processors, because they make it easy. The run extensive benchmarks on them that take into account both clock speed and cache, and then give them a numerical rating. Hence, the 3000 is faster than the 2800.

It doesn't really matter in this particular case. I would go for more cache here because it would give more bang than the higher cpu frequency.

For Office/Internet type of use, you will not notice the difference.
Hence just buy something that's cheap.

If using for intense 3D application/game then, pesonally, i'll opt for more cache than the 200mhz difference.
