About a month ago I bought the GT5238E gateway computer. I really really like this computer, all but one thing. The graphics card is HORRIBLE. I want to play a game that requires a better video card (I'm going to get the ATI Radeon X1300 PRO 256 MB PCI express card). However it says that it the card wont work with a motherboard designed for AGP or PCI video cards. I really don't know what this means, at all. Can someone tell me what I need to do, or buy (besides a new computer!)

thanks- hp

ISA, PCI, AGP and PCI-E are all different I/O connections for you computer to use other accessories like video cards.

According to Gateway your computer has the following empty slots: 1 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16.

The card you want to buy is a PCI-E (PCI Express). You should have no problems if you can figure out how to disable the onboard intel graphics your system is using now.

And just for your info, the fastest graphics cards are PCI-E

ATI Radeon X1300 PRO 256 MB PCI express card has PCI-E x 16 interface. It plugs into the available PCI-E x 16 slot on your motherboard.

Sounds like you need a new motherboard, I don't use motherboards alot so you'll have to ask a specialist about it, that or you could try another graphics card.
