It depends on the CPU.
Dual Core units will perform better with DDR2.
HOWEVER ... Vista (along wit TSRs) will easily gobble up 1GB of RAM.
Tough question .... I would go for the 1GB DDR2 & add another 1GB when I could more easily afford it.
You are buying a new PC ... don't invest in older technology.

hmmmm.... provocative
okay, why go to Vista.?? that said
both are an option, the ddr2 will be faster and you can always add more memory, the price is about the same for both (i said about, so don't holler)
i don't know the other specifics about the mobo, but it would seem that all things equal i would go with the ddr2 because, even though you get less up front the mobo is a newer model and theory would suggest that it has a longer upgrade life.
however, i don't see me switching to Vista anytime soon. I have got the same feeling about Vista as i had with WinME, i will stick with XP for a while and wait and see,

It depends on what you motherboard supports. nowadays all "new" motherboards support ddr2. However since vista requires a min of 1gb I suggest you get 2gb of ddr ram. Corsair XMS should do the trick. If budget is an issue get value select or if a pre built system get system select. They offer lifetime warranty and from experience, it's bloody good ram. "sorry thats my aussie expression coming out.

Hey Dude,
Depends! Is Chocolate or Vanilla better?
I am surprised you get this choice. Most DDR2 systems MUST have DDR2 and DDR systems do not support DDR2.
Vista Home, Get 4 GB of RAM. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT!
I have been running Vista beta for some time. I finally got happy at 4 GB or RAM and a 512 MB video card.

I think the DDR2 option would be better because that means the motherboard will be compatibile with DDR2.
It is the future, so upgradability is a nice option. It also depends on what you want to do. 1GB is still enough for most applications today.
