I want a FAST computer for digital photo and video editing. What are the differences in AMD, Pentium Duo, etc. etc. etc? There are SO many choices, I don't know which one is best. I'm looking for highest compatability and don't want to spend more than I need to, however, I don't mind spending 2500 dollars. Help me choose!

When I boot with nothing but the PSU, RAM and graphics card, the processor fan works, some of the power connections show power to them, but I get no monitor activity (not even an attempt to trigger the monitor), no power up beeping, no LED lights. So, I know I have power to parts of the board but everything I've tried has failed to get it going. Before I scrap it, anything else I should try? Thanks in advance.

This morning there was a blackout that lasted about 4 hours long, When the power came back, the computer would not turn on.
It worked fine before the black out. The monitor turns on, and I tried to change power cords, and outlets for the computer, I checked the power switch in back, that was on. I did just recently install a new graphics card yesterday, and when I turn on the computer the fans or lights dont turn on. With the exceptions of two green lights in the back of the computer.
I hope this is sufficient information for anybody to point out a problem.
Thanks!
-Sean

My internal CD Rom drive doesn't work. Sometimes the door won't open, but when it does and I insert a CD, I keep getting messages that there is no CD in the drive. Other times it just doesn't recognize the drive at all. I am a NOVICE, and a poor one at that. I would love to either: replace the CD rom drive if it is easy enough, or get an external CD rom drive, but don't know if it would be recognized. I have a Dell Dimension 2400.

So I get this message after my computer restarts:
------------------------------------
Problem caused by computer hardware

This problem was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error that caused the operating system to stop functioning.

Troubleshooting

If you have received this error more than once, it could indicate a serious problem with your computer. We recommend that you do the following:

1. Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.
2. Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.
---------------------------------------

So which hardware? Power supply? RAM?
Computer: Windows XP, 1GB Ram (1 of the 512 MB sticks is cheap RAM, though), and P4 2.4 GHz, Geforce 6200 256 MB, and generic 350 PSU.

I have read the similar question; I run defrag with an /f switch, and also without the switch ; I also run it from the command prompt. Its not the "Neat Freak" in me, since I know that a 0,0,0 defrag value set is possible ( the majority of the machines I do achieve that); its the one that fail that have me stumped. There is a set of commands like chkntfs or similar, and the command allows defrag to run fine. Also, some hardware settings can cause the failure, I just can't figure out how to find which is which.
Totally stumped... I have tried so many permutations.

I have two hard drives already but those are too small. Both are connected into primary slot on main board. I bought another 200 GB IDE hard drive and tried to install it into secondary slot on main board. When I go to F2 to see setup, setup can find all three hard drives. However, when the pc has turned on and I go to "my computer", it ONLY shows two old hard drives. If I switch the second old hard drive and new one installation (connect 1st master hard drive with new one with one IDE cable and switch 2nd slave old hard drive to secondary master), again SETUP can find all three. BUT "My computer" still sees those 2 old hard drives. New One could not be seen???
If I remove my 2nd slave old hard drive, "my computer" can see old 1st master drive and new one......

Does that mean I could NOT install 3 hard drives into one PC??

thank you for anyone who helps.......!!!!!

I installed windows vista and when it finshed I booted up and it had not installed my computer video card that is intel. It is using some generic video card that is VGA. So I went to BIOS and tried to disable that card...if I could. So I saw something that said something about disabling video cards. So I did. I had disabled the card and then I rebooted the computer. but after that THERE WAS A BLANK SCREEN ON MY COMPUTER! I dont know how to reenable the video card if I cant get into BIOS without seeing what I am doing since I cant see anything but a blank scree.

Can you please tell me a way..I had taken out the battery on the motherboard and that did not help.
