i've juse roformatted my win 98 and reinstalled win xp. my speakers definitely work and are plugged in correctly. prob is my comp cant even detect the speakers now..it says no audio device is connected. what can i do? please please please help.

The problem is not with your speakers, or getting the computer to detect speakers. It doesn't do that. What it detects is the presence or not of a sound card. If your computer had sound before, and you do have a sound card (hence the spot where you plug in spkrs, mic, etc) then your problem is that your computer doesn't recognize the card or it doesn't recognize the software drivers that tell it what card you have. You need to find out what kind of sound card you have and install the proper audio drivers for that card. If your sound card came with your computer, you should be able to get support/download the driver from the website for your brand and model of computer. The other option is to call tech support for that computer. Good luck.

By audio device it is referring to the " Sound Card " ...not the speakers.

You will need to find the brand & model of your sound card & download the appropriate drivers.

This may be difficult if it is an onboard device. You will then need to go to the motherboard manufacturer website & download the necessary drivers for the model of mainboard you have.

it is not a problem with your computer dear. get new one from an electronic store and check it.
