Desktops - December 2006

i have 3.5 ghz celron processor, 512 mb ddr ram and realtek on board soundcard. and ati raidon express graphics and a ge force fx5500 graphics card. it is really choppy when i play mp3 movies or any media. i tried changeing programs with no luck. media player, winamp and rahospdy is all choppy.

Whats my computer worth?
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+2.10 GHz, 448 MB of RAM, i'm not 100% sure about the memory at the moment. i can tell you it is and hp pavilion a610n and the monitor is 17" flat pannel and screen model f1703. 3 usb ports, compact flash, smart media / xD, mmc / SD, MS / MS PRO,and somen other stuff i have 2 mouses, and 2 keyboards. the speakers and everything work like new. i have a dsl modem and a printer i can include, i honestly no longer have use for a computer i'll be traveling for awhile and a desktop dosent work for me.

I got a new pc from my dads company, and ever since I started using it, this message shows up:

"M:\pc\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."

This is so freaking annoying, because it won't allow me to download programs that doesn't ask you to put shortcuts! I need some help - QUICKLY! Thanks.

this ones differant!
i am looking at macs to replace my pc. i do a lot of video work , mainly travel and holidays.with a pc i am advised to go for one with a second hard drive ,to edit my work.
i note that with macs they dont seem to have this as an extra.
i would like to know which mac would be suitable for my needs.

I have a HP a500n. The intergrated card on the motherboard that came with the computer is currently disabled because I added a new video card about a year ago. I dont know how to renable it. Also, is it possible to turn it back on without turning the computer on? I was told there are some switches on the motherboard or something but...I dont know what to do with them.

I have an Emachines PC which seemed to be working fine, though was getting a bit slow. It's about 4 years old and has had light to moderate use. My roommate said one day it would not turn on, so I went over and checked all cables and tried it. It came on instantly. A few days later, it became stubborn again. I phoned a tech guy who said it was the power supply, no doubt. He charged $70 for a new one and $50 for his 10 min. of labor. The moment he left it shut down again. I got my $ back and reinstalled the old supply. It turned on, but then it seemed like the hard drive was running constantly, and I could not shut it off - I would have to log off, shut down, then unplug it to keep it from starting up again. After a few days of this, it dropped dead. What does this sound like to you? I want it fixed, not taken out behind the barn and shot. Was I too hasty? Is it the power supply? Or am I looking at something more complex? Help is most appreciated.

My friend came over to use my computer, he has a MAC. When I told him to push the button on the hard drive (proper term is the tower) he acted really confused. Do MAC's not have towers? Do they not have hard drives?

How do I stop ATI Catalyst Control Center Notification popping up every time I enter Windows XP? Ok I just bought ATI X1950XT 256mb video card and when I installed drivers from cd this didnt show up but after intalling latest catalyst 6.12 from ATI website this thing keeps showing everytime I boot windows and I have to wait till it dissappears for like 2 minutes.It says ATI SmartGart is looking through your computer to optimize the graphics or something like that is there any way to disable it?Its really annoying.

I have a computer which has a Pentium 4 processor (2.9Ghz) and 512Mb of RAM.

I bought my computer a couple of months ago and when it starts up its really slow. I don't have many programs on it and I've already swept it for Adware.

I also have a laptop with lower specifications but it runs quicker.

What could be causing this?
