Just bought a gaming PC for my son.... is this sufficient?...If there's something better, is it only in a high-end expensive PC?...Are these upgradable?...

It's not a Pentium 4, my bad. It's the Duo processor.
I also got him the 2 gigs of RAM so I know that should be good.

Intel Core Duo's have benchmarked extremely well compared to other CPU's. They also emit very low levels of heat and are fast.
However, not all games can make use of dual-core cpu's so the games your son plays may not all play as fast as the capacity you have.
There are much faster single-core cpu's from AMD: check out www.newegg.com under the processors category.
Also, invest in lots of system memory.
Good luck.

Yeah, that should be great. Although I'll caution you that comparing P4 to Core2 duo really isn't fair. Both architectures are very different. Multi-core PCs only benefit when applications are programmed to use both cores, or when different applications use both cores. P4 is just a single core powerhouse processor. I wish I had a duo though (still got a 1.6 P4). For games, the OS can one on one core, the game on the other, this should improve performance.

Pentium 4 and Core Duo are different processers.
Core 2 Duo is latest and may be the best available now.
And processers are not upgradable. You can replace it.
You can go for higher GHz version of the same.
1.86 should be sufficient for your purpose!
