I have a Oldsmobile Cutlass 1998 at 155 000 miles. Firstly, I though there is a leak in the coolant system. I was putting water every 3 days and it worked fine for few months. However, probably with the time the leak got bigger and I overheated it once. Then i decided to take it to the repair shop I was told it is gasket and it will cost me around 500$. I didn't do the job. Today after driving with around 75 miles per hour the engine stoped working. I pulled over waited for half an hour and the road asistance told me it is the head gaskets are blown. I got it towed to the nearest repair shop. They didn't even look at it but just told me that head gaskets will cost me aound 1600$ which is almost the price of the car. Do you think that is the real price of this job or he just wanted to take an advantage of me? I think it is the same job that I was going to get done for 500$, just the difference is that the gaskets are blown now, not just leaking. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I have a 1996 Golf GTi. I was driving around in traffic today and it started to to get a bit tricky to get it into first gear. Over about ten minutes it was getting harder to get it into first and from first to second. I stopped at a roundabout and when I went to pull off it wouldn't go into first or second but it would go into reverse so I reversed to the side of the road and turned the engine off. With the engine off it would go into first so i started it in gear and drove to a spot to get picked up by the recovery vehicle. Now that I am home first gear seems to be working again? Any ideas what is wrong?

I know about the fuel filter on top, but is there not another under the driver's side somewhere and how do you change it. Could it be something else??? The truck ran fine until i shut it off last night.

yesterday, my car all of the sudden lost all of its power. Then engine light is on. It speeds up so slow so I took it to the dealers and they said it was accelerator censor or something. I never heard of anything like this. What could be the cause of it?

ok this is a really funny story. one night i was have a party in my basement w/o my parents knowing. some friends wanted a ride home so i said i would. i park my car on a fairly steep driveway near my parnets bedroom window. idecided i would not start my car( risk waking them up) but instead just shif the car in to neutral and roll down the driveway, then start it in the street( away from my parents window). well ishifted into neutral but then realized my brakes and steering wheel wouldnt work!!! i ended up running into my basketball hoop, knocking it over. me nad my friends put the hoop back up, there was damage to the hoop but not my car, i gave my friends a ride home and when i got back my parents never even woke up!!! should of just started it by there window i guess. well anyways my friends accused me of being drunk and not knowing how to drive, but i told them i could steer or use the brakes. so if u dont start ur car is it true that ur steering and brakes wont work?

If you can tell me how it's done I'll choose your answer as best and you'll score a few points. I've already tried disconnecting and then reconnecting the Negative clamp from its respective Negative battery terminal; the light still comes on. What do I try next? The car runs well, btw.

This is one the mechanic can't answer. This is the 2nd winter now that when I leave my Tracker sit for 4 or more hours and then start it up and go a couple of hundred feet and get the speed up to at least 25 mph - the brakes are EXTREMELY hard to push down. Then, after that the brakes work just fine. It seems that this does NOT do this in nice, warmer weather. I had taken it to a repair shop and they could not find anything wrong. How can this 'minor' problem be solved?
