Start Or Crank over?, Can Be a couple things (crank sender---what year is that guy working on ?) If not cranking the solenoid on the starter is going out (heat adds resistance), The coil is also suspect if it won't start---check to see if you have spark when it is acting up. when a coil is starting to go bad it will act like this--once cooled down it will act normal. But, the greater chance is that the fuel pump is going bad---Rangers have always had a constant level of problem with the fuel delivery system. The lower the line pressure--- the greater chance that the fuel will vaporize once the latent heat absorbs into the fuel line--when the engine is shut off.thus--the line is full of vapor. as the temp decreases so will the amount of vapor pressure acting upon the gas.
