1st off, when messing with transmissions its best to talk with experts. Someone who works on them for a living.

2nd, are you just trying to add (top off) to your transmission or perform a transmission filter and fluid service?

3rd, if just topping off, make sure you have the right type of fluid for the yr/make/model car, yours will be dexron III.

Start your vehicle and pull the dipstick that's in your transmission filler tube and check the reading. If you don't see any fluid on there at all then add half a quart each time until you get a accurate reading on both sides of the dipstick. It's also better to check it when your car has reached normal operating temp. Also make sure you purchase the right type of transmission fluid. If it's an automatic use Dexron 3. If it's a standard and you can't tell what fluid type is in it then drain a little out of the drain plug. Some standards take everything from gear oil, motor oil, syncromesh, even automatic trans fluid.

first, see what the owners hand book says about that fluid change. then look at the tranny, and see if you can get in there good enough to get to the bolts that hold the transmittions oil pan on. if every thing looks good, get the code off the tranny, so you can get the correct pan gasket and filter.OR
have your NAPA service center do it for you. your choice
