Your door ajar switch may be grounding out. Spray liberal amounts of penetrating fluid or WD-40 inside the door latch (that's where the ajar switch is located on your car, NOT on the door jamb, as others suggest). If that doesn't work, you may need a new switch, which requires removing the door panel to access.

I'm assuming the light is activated by either the headlight or door switch. The dome light works on a grounding circuit. If the button on the door checks out OK, then go to the headlight switch. If they both check OK then a wire may be chafed between the dome light & switches

There is a switch where the light is at, you can just push it until it go to the off position. The door need to be shut close before the light goes off. There are also problem with the door light switch on the Ranger. The switch is located inside the door where the latch is at. You can try to spray some electrical cleaner inside and see if that will free the switch.

Mate I've got a 2004 V6 - I had the same "problem"

The dome light can be turned on by rotating the light pull switch on the dash (the one that dims the console lights) when you turn it full to the left I think there is a click, that turns the dome light on and off (might be abit stiff, mine was)

easy "fix"!!

Did you check the switch in the door jamb. That could be your problem area. It can be removed with a wrench or socket. You can buy replacements at a auto parts store. For a quick, temporary fix - remove the bulb in the dome light ( while it is off so you don't get burnt ).
