This is one the mechanic can't answer. This is the 2nd winter now that when I leave my Tracker sits for 4 or more hours and then start it up and go a couple of hundred feet and get the speed up to at least 25 mph - the brakes are EXTREMELY hard to push down. Then, after that the brakes work just fine. It seems that this does NOT do this in nice,warmer weather. I had taken it to a repair shop and they could not find anything wrong. How can this 'minor' problem be solved?

I had this problem with an old 60 somethings Ford back in the 70's it turned out to be water in the brake fluid, a very small amount that did not show up when mechanics checked it. Bleeded the brakes and changed the fluid to fix. Hope this works for you.
