I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, and I've noticed within the last few weeks that when I turn I hear weird noises. I guess they can be described as "grinding" noises. Not really squealing ... It happens alot when I turn really hard. Anyone know what that could be? Easy to fix? or am I gonna have to shell out another $1600 to the dealership's service department? But let's not get into that bill! lol

(1988 ford aerostar)
last summer i had problems and i just bypassed my heater core for the heck of it.. problem is.. i forgot which hoses go where... i think i might have them hooked up backwards.

..do i hook the hose from the water pump to the top or the bottom connector running from the core?

& do i hook the hose from the intake to the bottom or the top?

much thanks.

ALSO! ..just incase i don't have them backwards.. how can i tell if it's just completely gone?

I took my car into this repair shop for work under an insurance claim. After 2 1/2 weeks (all mechanical no body) I picked up my car and had to take it right back. The power steering went out (They were supposed to have replaced all the those parts.) It took me another 3 days to get it back. 3 weeks later they had to replace the rack and pinion. Once again a part they already replace. Kept my car four days. Then they told me my lower left balljoint was bad. They had just replace the control arms during the initial repair. We looked up the part number it only comes as an assembly and that I could have bought the part for 130$ less then they charged me. What should I do? Who can I report them too? Any suggestions??? they have pretty much held my car hostage for the rack and pinion because there are no billable hours for replacing the part.

The odometer, gas gauge, speedometer, gear, rpm gauge, and engine thermostat on my '98 Dodge Caravan have suddenly ceased to function, they light up (except the odometer and gear) but don't do anything. Have I blown a fuse or is this something worse?

Sometimes the car drives alright. Other times it seems to labor to change gears. Lately...I'm lucky if it ever comes out of first gear. I had to pick my husband up at the doctor's office today and had to drive 25 miles an hour the ENTIRE way, or rev the engine to death. I was told perhaps transmission fix fluid might help it if it was just slipping or sticking. But I don't have a clue where to put the fluid...I'm female and stupid with cars...*L*

so i can crank the car without any problems at all, and then when i went to reverse it felt like there was something behind my rear wheels keeping me from driving, then when i went to drive foward there was like a bumping noise and it was still hard to drive. I obviously parked it and when i got out it smelled sort of like something burning. I should have checked the oil but i didn't cause it was cold and now i can't go back outside. What could be wrong with my car?

In British English, a "panel beater" is someone whose job is to remove dents from the outer frame of a vehicle that has been in an accident. Are there any equivalents to "panel beater" in American English or we can simply call them a mechanic?

Here's my problem:
My AC and heat only work on full blast, the lower settings don't turn on at all. Is it safe to assume it's just the knob/switch?

If it's likely to be the cause, where can I get it online? I don't know exactly what the part is called.

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. I noticed today that it was making a strange noise. It sounds like it is coming from the back of the car but I'm really not sure. The noise usually comes when I'm on a bumpy road but I've heard it on smooth roads also.
I'm going to try to explain the noise.....
A little skweaky/rattling...I thought maybe my door was open a little but it wasn't.... it is also kind of like when you are tuning in an AM radio station and right before you get to the station.....it makes a funny noise.
I've never had any issues with my car. It is a lot colder here now....maybe that could be causing it?
I just don't know if I should worry? Or have it looked at??
Thanks in advance!!!

Everytime I get out of my vehicle I get a shock when shutting my car door. It seems to be getting worse. At first they were little annoying pops, but recently they've been getting worse - to the point my fingers will ache for several minutes.

I just purchased it for $500 (please don't ask me why I did not pull the dipstick), sure enough there is coolant in the oil pan (quite a lot), but it runs out very well. I am getting ready to try two bottles of Mendtite, after changing the oil (not filter) with cheap oil (maybe straight weight). If this works, and there is only enough coolant in the oil pan to cause a little sludge, and I change the oil about every 500 miles, what are my chances of getting one to two season out of the rig, provided I drive it easy, and by season I mean about 2500 to 5000 miles - mostly 65 mph two lane rural highway driving. The gal honestly did not know this problem was happening, but said the last oil change was about 2000 miles ago. I just want to know if I have a chance of some light duty use without engine knocking, or if it appears inevitable. Thanks.

Have a 98' Bonneville SSEI and have just been told engine is a total loss from anti-freeze mixing with oil after having the fuel intake repaired. Right after having the repair done at Meineke the car drove to bring it home, but the next day the car had no oil pressure when we came to a stop, and the check engine light came back on. Mechanic said they may have gotten water in the oil? and drained all the oil and told us we needed a higher weight oil because car was old. NEVER had to do this before and have never heard of putting a higher weight oil to fix an engine problem. The next time we went to drive the car it stalled - several times. We brought it to a Pontiac dealer who replaced vacuum hose. Car worked for 1 day (to and from work) and then lost oil pressure again and engine was knocking. The final diagnosis? Total engine loss and I'm pissed. Could Meineke have caused this damage? Did Meineke change the oil because they knew what was happening?

I drive a 92 Mazda Protege and tonight driving hom it was making a knocking noise. I was bone dry on oil and about 10 miles from the gas station. Once my car stopped I jumped it and it started and turned off then I added oil and it turned on.....making a louder knocking noise and then a rumbling noise I pulled off and the car felt like it was driving itself. I dont know what's wrong with it. How would I know if i blew my engine or threw a rod?
