Have a 98' Bonneville SSEI and have just been told engine is a total loss from anti-freeze mixing with oil after having the fuel intake repaired. Right after having the repair done at Meineke the car drove to bring it home, but the next day the car had no oil pressure when we came to a stop, and the check engine light came back on. Mechanic said they may have gotten water in the oil? and drained all the oil and told us we needed a higher weight oil because car was old. NEVER had to do this before and have never heard of putting a higher weight oil to fix an engine problem. The next time we went to drive the car it stalled - several times. We brought it to a Pontiac dealer who replaced vacuum hose. Car worked for 1 day (to and from work) and then lost oil pressure again and engine was knocking. The final diagnosis? Total engine loss and I'm pissed. Could Meineke have caused this damage? Did Meineke change the oil because they knew what was happening?

Yes they 'could' have caused it from the intake repair. Did they change the oil b/c they thought it was happening? doubtful, and Im not sure I know what you mean

The intake on the GM 3800 gen I and II are for the most part easy if you know what you are doing but are prone to leak if not torqued incorrectly, warped intake (it does happen), faulty or not cleaned gaskets or where it meets the heads.

It could have taken in water, but, it would be visible with the oil change.... so past that Im not sure why it would loose oil pressure afterwards.....

The first guys that touched it are the most likey suspects, but you might have to go to corperate to get any kind or $$$ out of them, unless you can give us more details

V6 or V8? How Many Miles? "Fuel Intake Repair" are you Talking about Intake Manifold? Why did you drive the Car if you thought you had "No Oil Pressure?" Coolant (Anti-Freeze) in the Oil is a Bad Head Gasket & Cylinder Wash Down allowing any Fluid in the Piston to Drain into the Oil Pan. Sounds like the Engine was ready to go before it got to them!

yes more than likely the engine was destroyed by water inthe bottom of the sump so the engine was trying to lubricat itself
with water and not oil and yes this is most probable cause
for engine failure hope you keept your repair docket because if you dont it will be a big court battle better go back and see him and no use arguing just fact is there an automotive repair tribunal or something like that

Yes. Why did they think the manifold needed repair. Did their computer look up say it was a common problem and they attempted to repair a problem that had not happened yet.
GM V6 intake leaks are common and yes if not repaired correctly will destroy the engine. They usually have shop liability insurance that will pay for their ineptness.

it could be a weak oil pump

it could be a blown head gasket

it seems like you hve an oil leak which is causing low oil pressure and engine knocking because of friction if you continue driving this it will throw a rod and that will result in catostrophic engine failure

it was meineke, they got coolant into the oil or water into the oil that can cause the problem and a 98 isn't old they were just blowin smoke up your butt.
