The 2002 owners manual lists only synthetic oils as being recommended. Aren't regular multi-grade oils safe to use in the Freelander?

I would say that I have medium mechanical skills, but the car's not worth bringing in to a mechanic.

My father is a freak with his Cadillac. He absolutely loves this thing. I overheard him say that he wanted a 12-inch orbital buffer. I've been to all of the local stores to find one for him for Christmas and haven't seen anything larger than a 10-inch. He says that a 10 inch is so much harder to work with than a 12-inch, any truth to this. Where would be a good site to look to find a NEW 12-inch buffer like this? Also, I want to get him a good one so what am I lookin at for a price? Thanks everyone, Ya'll are a big help.

I don't have the money or time to order a new one. I changed my oil myself and didn't think it was a big deal, because it went back on tight enough. Now I have no more oil in my motor, and there is a slow leak at the screw. What should I do, I don't want to glue it or anything, because I will need to take it off again next time.

My '04 Taurus is acting weird because the information on the dashboard is telling me I am loosing miles on the gas quicker than I am drving. (I don't know how to explain it, so pardon my ignorance.) For example, it read 363 miles to E one minute then it said 333 the next. I had traveled maybe about 5 miles.

So i lost my house phone charger, only have one for the car. I went out to the car, turned on the engine (did not rev it up) and charged my phone. Im thinking the car was on for 20-30 minutes. I go out...and the car is dead. That doesnt seem like a very long time for it to be on...i guess the battery was already low? I'm so irritated, been the worst week ever. My friend ison the way over with jumper cables...is that all i should need?

I pulled the interior light bulb above my head in my 2000 dodge neon. My car battery keeps dying though. The light stayed on because the back passenger door wouldnt shut completely and the light stayed on. I pulled it and the battery keeps dying. It can get jumped and run all day. Once the car doesnt get started for a certain amount of time it would need a jump. I was thinkin , alternator, possibly a new battery of course

(not diesel) engine to run on METHANOL...?

This is for a fictional situation with people away from civilization, etc. but I want to include legitimate detail. They don't have a machine shop, but I'm looking for ideas on tuning, etc. What kind of mixture would it take?

It doesn't have to run well. In fact, the rear axle is gone, so don't worry about mileage. All they need is a way to run the alternator to recharge the vehicle batteries periodically, so they can recharge flashlights, radios, etc., whose batteries have ALSO gone dead.

Thanks!

Ok here is my problem. I'm working on a 1984 Toyota pickup with the fuel injected 22R engine. Its my neighbors truck and i have been asked to help him fix it. His battery kept dying and i told him it was the alternator(checked with a volt meter). He was getting less than 12v while running. I disconnected the battery cable and it died. we took out the alternator and had it benched tested, they said it was bad and he got a new one on warranty. We installed it and still less than 12v. I know quite a bit about mechanics but its electrical problems that stump me. I checked the power going into the alternator through the plug and there is constant power through all 3(about 10v) and it goes up to about 12v when the key is turned on. I checked the output of the alternator and it only read 2v.weird. I checked all the grounds and they are all good. We checked all the fuses(under the hood and inside the truck) and haven't found any that were bad. We changed the voltage regulator and that didn't help. I checked for power through the disconnected alternator wire and it had voltages consistent with the battery. I tried the magnetic test on the alternator(screwdriver on the back) and it wasn't magnetic when running(that means the alternator is not working right?) He replaced his battery and i made sure all his wires had a good connection(block, body, starter, etc.)We checked to make sure the belt was tight enough. Is it possible to have gotten a bad alternator or is our problem something more serious? I'm running out of ideas!!!! Help!!

I am little more that a back yard mechanic but have been repairing and rebuilding engines for 25 years and I am stumped. My friend has a 1998 (I believe this is the year) Ford Fiesta. She took the car to a mechanic after putting two batteries in her car. The mechanic told her he thought she had simply bought two faulty batteries. LOL! He sold her a third high dollar battery. The problem persists. The battery will start the car a few days and then die. I have started the car and removed the battery and driven it without problems.

the last month she has problems with it starting. She has replaced the starter and we still have to jump start it everyday. However, today she called me outside to listen to her care and the engine and the RPM's would go up and down, like she was reving her engine. She doesn't have a lot of money so if it's something we can get fixed ourselves we will. Any ideas fellow smarties of yahoo answers?

Before I start, I have checked the heater core, gone through the entire cooling system, etc. I have run the heater diagnostics and they say all the doors and valves are working correctly. I still feel a large amount of air coming in the duct in the passenger side external air intake. I tried to seal it off hoping that it would recirculate passenger compartment air but it bogs the heater fan down too much. I am thinking there is a door other than the blend door that switches recirculating air to fresh air that isnt working. Maybe the sensors are working correctly but the door has a hole in it or has come loose. Any ideas????? The heat eventually gets somewhat warm after 30 minutes of running but it just doesnt seem to get very hot.

This is the 2nd trans. i had punched a hole in the transfer case originally when the front drive line sheared off the bolts, replaced that, and my tranny died immediately. litterally the 1st time i drove it. then replaced the trans, but used the same transfer case and torque converter. now it drives fine in 1st and second, but won't shift out of 2nd. It shifted through the gears the first time, but then would never go past 2nd from the next intersection...????
