This is the 2nd trans. i had punched a hole in the transfer case originally when the front drive line sheared off the bolts, replaced that, and my tranny died immediately. litterally the 1st time i drove it. then replaced the trans, but used the same transfer case and torque converter. now it drives fine in 1st and second, but won't shift out of 2nd. It shifted through the gears the first time, but then would never go past 2nd from the next intersection...????

Couple of thoughts......Vacuum modulator on the trans may be shot or vac line is disconnected/leaking. Kickdown linkage may need to be adjusted.

Same as Paul H. Check your vacuum lines going to your transmission. Might not have gotten it on good and came off. Next check as see if it split while putting it on.
Next check the modulator value. then linkage.
Ends of those pesty vacuum lines are bad about splitting when they age a little. Pulling them off and now doesn't help either.
