sounds bad what ever it is the green fluid is antifreeze as well as the white smoke the smoke means you have a leak into the combustion area did you just have head work done ?? sounds like someone botched something there somewhere

maybe you have a blown gasket. A fluid leak is often a sympton of gasket problems. The smoke suggests oil getting into the cylinders. A lot of oil would cause the engine to run poorly. It may be blown rings too, which is worse (more expensive). I'd check all my fluid levels and I wouldn't drive the car until a mechanic had a look. Sorry to say this, but maybe the car is shot. It's 20 years old, that is a long time for a car.

Sounds like the car overheated and the engine started to seize up..... heads could be cracked and the antifreeze in getting into the cylinders and getting burnt, that is the weird smoke you see and smell.... a cracked head or bad head gasket will do this.

What did you have recently fixed? Smoke coming out the exhaust while your unable to shift gears, to me may be your clutch burning. If you burn the clutch significantly, you will see I believe brownish smoke from tailpipe. What color is the fluid you saw leaking?

My hubby is a Mechanic and he said it sounds like your Catalytic Converter is plugged especially if the car smells funny. Like rotten eggs? Go back to the place that recently fixed it. Good luck hon!
