so i can crank the car without any problems at all, and then when i went to reverse it felt like there was something behind my rear wheels keeping me from driving, then when i went to drive foward there was like a bumping noise and it was still hard to drive. I obviously parked it and when i got out it smelled sort of like something burning. I should have checked the oil but i didn't cause it was cold and now i can't go back outside. What could be wrong with my car?

If it is a front wheel drive car, it sounds like a bad CV joint in a drive axle! If also could be a locked up brake, a bad wheel bearing, or a problem with the drive shaft!

Without more information, (year, make, model, etc.) it is hard to give a better answer.

it's possible the parking brake could have stuck the last time you used it. It will cause the problems you mention here as well as the burning smell.

if you have drum brakes you might want to get those serviced. otherwise it could be your wheel bearings, cv joints or u joint.
