I have an Engine Knock that has Developed in the Past 10k Mile's, just after changing to Synthetic. I have a Theory that it is the fact that the Synthetic Oil is Thinner, and driving my Camaro Z28 without the Engine Warmed-up with this Thinner Type of Oil (Even though it is 10w-30). I think that 10w-30 Synthetic is more like 5w-30 Regular Motor Oil.

Also, I have noticed that my LS1 burns oil with Synthetic. It Sucks!! I must make it Thicker, somehow!!

So, what can I do to make the Motor Oil Thicker?!?
Is there such thing as 15w-30?!? Or 15w-40 Synthetic?!?

I have tried adding Lucas Oil to the Oil, and it doesn't get rid of the Knocking Sound. I don't believe that the Lucas Oil is Thick Enough.

The Engine knock has gotten worse over time, and louder. It never did this, until After I switched to Synthetic.

I don't want to switch back to Regular Oil, unless its Safe. However, the Engine DID run Quieter with Regular Oil!!

So what should I do?!?

My car runs fine, and nothing (that I know if) if wrong with it..I just want to make sure it stays like that. So, how much would a tune up for a 1996 Grand Am SE cost? Also, what would they "tune up"

I live in Ohio if that helps any

Cellular phones can help when the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, let you calm worried family when you're late, help you help others in an emergency, and even save a life. Good things all; many benefits in daily use as well, but how in the world did we allow such a huge, ever-increasing percentage of the population to become completely brainwashed and hypnotically obsessed with using their cellphones as though extra points are earned by who uses the most minutes or send the most texts? Worse yet the trend has become strongly linked with driving. Do we secretly miss all those little metal & glass booths so badly we transferred fixation to cars; plentiful, compact, private boxes of glass and metal............ looking at it like that who could argue the resemblance?

Cellphones don't have to banned from roads or locked in trunks, but how's about displaying a little more self-control out there, huh?

If r-12 is heavier then air, and it is known to attack the Ozone layer that is Very high in the atmosphere, how can R-12 be harmful to the Ozone? It's heavier then air and absorbs in to the ground. I'm just a little confused as to their argument that it's harmful to the Ozone when it never reaches the Ozone to begin with. Anyone else know?

1999 grand am se with v6 engine (GT engine) i think i am leaking the coolant from the freeze plug, it is located on the engine block behind & below the thermostat housing & the water seems to be releasing pressure from the freeze plug area because i added water to it to see where it was bubbling from I couldnt see any bubbling but there is pressure being released & alot of water is on the area of the plug dripping down the front & right side of the eng block. i can hear pressure being released after i shut the engine off & if i open the coolant resivour cap to release pressure it stops coming from the unknown sorce ( freeze plug )

has anyone ever had to replace this ? im prettty sure the previous owner had a overheating problem on the car but said they never drove it in the red zone & had 300$ repair done to the car, but may have added water alone during mid-winter months, could have caused the freeze plug to open. open to any suggestions thank you

Okay, here is my whacked idea for the evening:

Could there be a 'mobile town'? Could there be a town of a few thousand people that move up and down the coast in a freight-train caravan as a comunity? They would continually move to optimal climate every few months. The comunity would pay like $500 each to move about four times a year to optimal climate. Kind of like mobile homes, but bigger. Could the prices be compatible w/ homes? Would the savings in heating and cooling, offset most of the moving expenses?

Here's the situation.
My current car has 123,000 miles on it. Today the alternator went bad. We thought it was the battery at first because we couldn't even test the alternator because the battery was seven years old, so we placed that. $85.00. Then it was the alternator on the car. It's going t run at about $220 to fix it after taxes, labor, etc. Then I need my breaks in the front replaced. Not sure how much that is. Also need the transmission fluid flushed as well, which is for sure $100 or so. The car is getting a little rusty as well, but runs fine (when it works - right now it won't even turn on). I'm getting ready to move on my own in a few months, i'm curious as to if I should buy a new car (leased preferably) or if I should stick with what I have, pay $500 + to repair it, and keep it till it dies for once. Any thoughts?
