Okay, we are taking the Path Train to NY then we have to get on the 4th.

We have to buy train tickets for NJ transit and MTA.

Plus, I have never traveled into NY on New Years or gone futher than Penn Station on 34th St. (and neither have the rest of the people going with me).

I was thinking we should leave by 8pm.

Is that too late?

Should we leave earlier?

Plus they say they want to leave at 9 -9:30 pm............that is toooooooo late

PRR had many of them, in addition to 122 of 2-10-0's they built themselves, serving in drag service in the Alleghanies, but the Santa Fe ran some in freight service as well, where they were well suited to helper dervice.

Information in general is easily found, but I'm looking for the specifics of their use on the Santa Fe, including dates and locations where possible.

Thanks for the help.
H.

Virgin Trains (UK) have placed a large ad in today's papers berating Network Rail for its decision to close, at very short notice, the West Coast Main Line on New Years Eve. To my mind this is symptomatic of the nonsense of privatisation separating infrastructure from the operation of trains. Am I alone in thinking this? Are there any advantages in this kind of structure when, historically, railways have always been organised as a vertically integrated business?

well i live in the suburbs outside boston...and i would love to go into boston to go vintage shopping..however my parents are always working so they cant bring me. So do you think my mom would let me and my two friends take the train into boston alone go shopping and then take the train back home. we are 15 but i feel like we are responsible and mature. we would just get dropped off at the train station, take the train, walk 2 blocks to the store we want to go to, shop, walk 2 blocks back to the train station, take the train home. ive taken the train before( with an adult) and i know how it works. and i also know that kids in the city take the train/subway all the time. Despite all this i feel as though my mom will immediately put down this idea the minute i bring it up.
so what are you guys thoughts? Do you think this is a reasonable request? Do you think we are too young?

The dial face is calibrated from "0" to "70", is approx 5 &3/8" in diameter. I cannot find any kind of date; the dial face is engraved w/ the Ashcroft logo (shield), and underneath that is the word "Altitude". It looks quite similar in appearance to gauges associated with UPRR engines.

This would be in regards to commuter passenger rail.
New Jersey Transit uses the pulling locomotive.
Long Island uses the DMU.
There must be some reason for the difference.

I was very polite and professional with that guy with the bad manners who didn't have enough money and said
"Take the fu#king money!" I'm thinking maybe I was a little too soft on him in response. What would you have done? He was a buck and about 60 something cents short and his exact words were "Just take the fu#king money!" somewhat causing a scene. I think this guy might have had some anger issues. I'm thinking maybe I let him off too easy when I said it's ok, I gave him helpful brochure and said for him to have a nice day at the next stop. He finally apologized at the very end and told me had had a very bad day and he felt bad for acting the way he did, but I'm still starting to think that maybe I was a little too nice and helpful in response given his bad attitude from earlier on.

How would you have handled it?
What would you have said and done if you were in my position under the exact same circumstances with the same guy?

besides the obvious things like listening to music and reading. I won't have an electrical socket b/c I'm traveling coach. It's a 5.5 hour ride.

also - will it be obvious where to get off, or do you have to walk through multiple cars in order to get off? I definitely don't want to miss my stop.

My husband is hearing impaired. Not completely deaf but he does wear hearing aids. Was wondering if this could be a big factor for him trying to become a conductor with NS? Any additional info in regards to NS and there conductor training would be great.

As a train conductor on the train there again, I was collecting money and giving out receipts as usual, but then I came across this young teenage girl who was by herself and didn't have any money. I told her she needs to get off at the next stop, but then she screamed and made a scene and said "NOOO!!" while sobbing and I whispered to her and said "If you don't shut the hell up, I'm gonna open up a major can of whoop-as@ on you, STONE COLD STYLE!!" She shup right up. At the next stop, she started whining loud and refused to leave, so I grabbed her by the collar and threw her as# off the train and she cried outside at the stop. But what else could I have done? I didn't want to do it, but she was making a scene. Maybe next time, she will be more responsible, have enough money, and stop whining so much.

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others or their choice not to practice any religious/secular traditions.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contribution to society has made America great. Not necessarily to imply America is greater than other countries nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere.

Also, this wish is made without regard to race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, etc.
