It's like a platform with wheels, it sort of straddles the track has a big lever and you make it move by pumping it up and down.

I'm trying to find pictures of one.....and I thought it was "hand cart" ~ a few things are coming up under that, but I'm guessing there HAS to be another name for that thing.

Help! :)

It would be in the UK and would involve opening a heritage railway to the public all year round and would have a timetable similar to services on Network Rail. The idea would be to have not just heritage services running but also modern trains running and perhaps connecting to a Network Rail line at some point. There would also be freight services where possible. It would be a not for profit organization and would contribute greatly to the local economy.
What would be the steps towards achieving this?

I'm meeting a friend but would like to arrive by bus as it's cheaper than train, however she is taking the train and I need to know if it's close by so I can easily reach her. I'd be arriving 30 minutes before her.
If they're ages apart I'll just take the train!

I'm planning a 3 month trip to Europe and would like to know how much a typical train ticket cost. Not like Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul, but like, say, London-Paris, Monaco-Milan, Berlin-Hamburg.

I know there is no fixed price cos they differ with the distance and destination, but I want a rough estimate.

My budget is around USD$10K anyway. Do you think that'll last me a rough round trip around Europe for 2-3 months?

I have never seen a freight train stop. Maybe it's just the city I live in, but it seems like a freight train would stop at a few factories or something to load up, but I have never seen one stop. Passenger trains stop all the time at the station, but never freight trains which seem very long to stop anyways.

When I go on the DLR why do some trains have operators where they lift the panel up by the front seat window and appear to press some buttons, whereas on other trains they do not have operators.

Confused.

Hello--I am searching for an expert in 19th century-era steam trains/cog rail to assist with a VERY intriguing project/article. Specifically, I need someone to identify an object associated within the train realm. I would prefer someone with verifiable credentials or associations within this field, and someone willing to use their real name and those credentials within a published article. Thanks.

I currently live in northern N.J. and am asking if there is anyplace in particular I have to go to fill out a form or application.

I suppose they must have to be the same height or the trains wouldn't run smoothly over the lines. But who decided what height they would all be set at and when?

I am going on an Amtrack for the 1st time this weekend. I have to figure this whole thing out before I do something stupid. I am going to Chicago and need some help.
How early should I get to the train station?
Do they check bags?
Is there anything special I should know about riding a train?
When I get to Chicago, will they tell me when its time to hop off?
Do I take the 29 inch Samsonite roller on the train with me or do they have somewhere to put it?
Thanks
