if i put some train wheels on my car and went down the tracks, would the railroad company detect me on there rails or what. I wanna do this and then follow a freight train for a couple hundred miles. I would put them on my car like the maintence trucks do.... where they come down and go back up.

I am getting the train from Southend-on-sea in Essex to either Fenchurch Street or Liverpool Street. But from there where do I need to go? Which major station in London goes to Birmingham, specifically Birmingham NEC, the Birmingham National rail station or something I think its called.

Also, how much do you think it would cost to get a return ticket for under sixteens?

All educated guesses appreciated! Please don't tell me to use a website like National Rail, I just want the answer here please!

Thanks :)

I'm trying to find out how trains are made. Not toy trains or model trains, but real ones. Either freight or passenger, it doesn't matter. I'm just looking for the basics, thank you.

i am based in basingstoke working for the rail industry.the question i would like answered is the small office we work out of is being sold to a taxi company meaning we are being moved to southampton.Well i llve nearer to southampton then basingstoke, but the strange thing is as i do not drive it is easier for me to get to basingstoke by train and home on very late shifts , where as in southqampton i do not have any late trains to get me back , and my house is about 8 miles away.just wondered do the company have to cater for this and is there any payment i should recieve for this

When I was debating to use the car or Train to Nottigham from Milton Keynes it was either - Bus to train station £3 return, Train £32.50 return, Bus to my house £3.40 return, (£38.90 for public Transport). Or to use the car for £15 fuel total. On top of this the train would take about 2 hours extra.
So as an incentive of using public transport and saving the environment we get offered a much more expensive, longer service costing us a lot of time and money. So with this in mind, why isn't there a change made. Which is a 'greener' option, keeping the expensive trains with few people willing to pay for this service over a car, or lowering prices and having filled up, cheaper trains ? I know what i would do if i had a political say..
