in London around 30mph,as the stations are so near,out of London 50mph+,can go faster ,but speed restrictions slow them down

Its about 20 mph in the underground section, but where there underground share the lines that are operated by Network Rail (My company) then they travel at 30 -40 mph.
The tube seems to move faster than what it actually is because you cannot properly judge the speed as there is no natural light outside the train.
Also when trains run through tunnels on the overground network the trains have to reduce their speed incase there is something in the tunnel!

Speed Limit on London Underground is 05mph-60mph depending on what line you are running.
Metropolitian Line used to run at 60mph south of Harrow On The Hill. Because of bad tracks and bedding I think they now run 40-45mph
Speeds depend on the track you are running, if there are speed restrictions, emergency restrictions ect.
Generally its 30-45mph

20 to 30 mph depending on the line and the section it is on;
the Central Line from West Ruislip to Epping travels slightly faster, and the Metropolitan Line that goes from Aldgate right out to Amersham in Buckinghamshire 29 miles away, with long non-stop sections, travels up to 50 mph
