I am a bill collector, and sometimes I feel absolutely horrible for calling people and completely making them feel like crap (unintentionally). I respect all of the laws and am very professional at what I do, but I sometimes feel like a bad person, like I shouldn't be doing such a thing.

I live in the Houston area. Is it better to try to get a job at an auto repair shop, with no experience, and learn there? Or is it better to get a degree/certificate and then search for a job? I know HCC (houston community college) offers both a degree and a certificate, which one is better?

If you were making under $30,000 a year, and you got a job offer at a pharmaceutical company who was not aware of how much you make do you think asking for $35,000 would be asking to much? I would be moving two steps up from where I am now so it's not a lateral move. I guess what I am trying to say is pharmaceutical companies are know for having money and this company has been around since 1985 so I just did not want to shoot myself in the foot by not ask for enough. The website said the have competitive pay. I feel I deserve this much I just don't want to over do it.

If an application only has a place for current employee recomendations, where can I put other recomendations from a teacher?
And does baby sitting, house cleaning, lawn care for a friend of the family count as past employment even if I was not on a pay roll?

I have been struggling to get work in a new area I have recently moved to. I worked for an agency with a couple of jobs - the last I did not finish my contract as I was depressed and the job was not right for me. It was difficult to talk to the client I worked for as they were in constant meetings and admittedly did not ring the agency to say how I felt as I thought I could cope but through depression I finished the job at the end of the day after a couple of weeks and contacted agency next day. They sent me a letter saying that I have let them down badly and why did I not disclose that I suffered from depression on my application form. Was I lying. I said I only get depressed of my circumstances. They told me not to contact them again and the letter was quite nasty. I cannot go to them for a reference now or other agencies I signed on with at the same time as them because they knew I was working for them. I feel really penalised now and don't know what to do to get employment.

I was approached (while I was at a Walmart, nonetheless) by someone who asked me if I was looking for a career in finance. Strange, but this isn't the first time I've been approached like this.He talked about how debt among Canadians is huge, and we spoke for a bit.

I asked him if he had a card, but he didn't. He just scribbled Citigroup's website URL on the paper, and his contact info.

He then gave me his E-mail address. It's hosted by Hotmail. Alarm bells were already ringing.

When I called him, he then told me about Primerica, a branch of Citigroup. He was incredibly vague about what I'd be doing, or even what my job title would be. From there, we scheduled an interview. I Googled Primerica, and while lots of people insist it's a scam, an equal number of people are steadfast in defending it as a legitimate business opportunity.

Anyone have experience with these guys? Are they another Cutco?

You're the youngest and newest in a professional teamwork environment. Management has pressured you into accepting a leadership position for the group because no one else is stepping up. You're not sure if accepting the new position will create any tension among your peers. You're afraid that your friendship before will not be the same after being their new boss. What now? Pass up the oppportunity or stay put. New position will bring more $ and responsibilities and lots more headache. Current position is worry free.
