Social workers normally work face to face and over the phone dealing with families, councel people, solve issues of crisis and
help people to work out problems they are unable to solve or manage themselves.

This job pays decent, but it is long hours, and very stressful. I had a friend who worked as one, she made about $40k yr but worked like 50 hours a week and was always tired and stressed.

This type of job normally requires a Bachelors degree.
Ask yourself:
- Do you really like working with people
- Do you like solving issues or problems
- Are you willing to work long hours
- Can you handle the stress of Families in crisis

This should help you make a decision

I believe that anyone considering a career in social work should have a strong desire to help people. Social Workers address the needs of individuals, and the community by advocating and participating in social change. As a social worker you can help those who are mentally ill, economically disadvantaged, elderly people, or children in foster care just to name a few. In order to be a social worker you need a license. Social Workers should not expect to become rich, but you can be comfortable. Earning a Master's Degree would also increase your salary. You can go to the us dept. of labor and learn more or any university website and they will go further in depth. I'm a senior in college and am majoring in SW and can not wait to begin working in the field. I majored in Communication for 3 years and just changed my major because in my heart I knew I wanted to help people. This profession is a great fit for who I am.

Social workers are concerned with social problems, their causes, their solutions and their human impacts. Social workers work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities, as members of a profession which is, theoretically at least, committed to social justice and human rights.-
So basically its some1 who works to have an impact/help the social environment. It can be by solving problems or by just doing labour. Examples can be taking care of the mentally ill,nanny/babysitter,police men n firefighters etc., youth councillors or guidance councillors in general. To become 1 u need a bachelor in social work and if you are an active helpful person its a suitable job. But if you dont like big responsibility its not

A social worker is a sponge of taxpayer's money; a government sponsored bump on a chair. Find something more noble to do, like a sewer worker.

it'd only be a good career if you like to help those in need. a social worker helps battered women, neglected/abused kids, neglected/abused elderly. they help those people get out of their situations & help place them in better places. you'd probably have to have at least an associates degree
