If you were making under $30,000 a year, and you got a job offer at a pharmaceutical company who was not aware of how much you make do you think asking for $35,000 would be asking to much? I would be moving two steps up from where I am now so it's not a lateral move. I guess what I am trying to say is pharmaceutical companies are know for having money and this company has been around since 1985 so I just did not want to shoot myself in the foot by not ask for enough. The website said the have competitive pay. I feel I deserve this much I just don't want to over do it.

Well of course, pharmaceutical companies are able to give better wadges because its one of the highest grossing industries in the US. It depends on what job you are looking at in that industry. Most jobs in management, sales, distrobution, and marketing pay well above 30,000. It all depends on your exp or education. Education is more important in todays economy no matter what field or career you decide to go into. Companies always figure they can train you to a specific task, so long as you have the ability to learn that task. The way they assess that ability is through your credentials, a degree. Usually a bachelors. For example an English major can find work in management or marketing cause with your ability as an English major to analyze and critique documents can be augmented to fit their needs. Reading reports, going over data from lab tests or communicating with stores, doctors, etc... is a job that pays well above 30,000. Just assess your own worth and highlight how they can better use you. It all depends on you giving them the right perspective.

Hmm. can't you just say negotiable.
Then when they ask them them 36,000, always ask for more than what you want. that gives room fro them to come down.
