Unfortunately, prices for federal employment are set nationally.
You would make the same in an expensive city such as New York and in a poor rural Florida town at the job of postman.
I've lived in both locales; I know what I'm saying.
In 1941, my father worked for the post office, and was paid around 4000. To live as well on one salary nowadays as he
once did, I have calculated that one would have to make 95,000 a year.
But a postman makes $28,000.
So, even with the government on their side, despite decent benefits, the PO worker is about 40% as well off as he was 65 years ago.
And the rest of us are even worse off. That's why it takes two salaries being earned for two people to live less well than families used to live on one salary back when I was born.

They get paid for each letter they deliver. They get paid 2.3 cents per letter, according to their contract.
