I have been struggling to get work in a new area I have recently moved to. I worked for an agency with a couple of jobs - the last I did not finish my contract as I was depressed and the job was not right for me. It was difficult to talk to the client I worked for as they were in constant meetings and admittedly did not ring the agency to say how I felt as I thought I could cope but through depression I finished the job at the end of the day after a couple of weeks and contacted agency next day. They sent me a letter saying that I have let them down badly and why did I not disclose that I suffered from depression on my application form. Was I lying. I said I only get depressed of my circumstances. They told me not to contact them again and the letter was quite nasty. I cannot go to them for a reference now or other agencies I signed on with at the same time as them because they knew I was working for them. I feel really penalised now and don't know what to do to get employment.

The working class vs. the employing class. Employers let an employee down and many (not all) get away with it because they have the means -- they have rules and regulations, they have policies, they have procedures, they have guidelines, they have code of conduct, they have credo, vision, mission, objectives, strategies, tactics, plans and all these layers and layers of written statements to justify their actions. Employees have only the contract, ID card and payslip, also prepared for them by the employer.

This is the reason why employers can rule over. Everybody is dispensable. If you 'don't act like one us' go seek work in other agencies that would accommodate you.

It's a cruel set up but we can't do anything about it. Employees are lucky enough that labor laws are pro-labor.

So my advice to all employees, keep a fluid communication with your employers not only when there is a problem so there's no miscommunication which is always the root of the employee-employer conflict.

Finally, write to your agency to explain your side but don't expect that it will change their mind. Move on. The world is yours for the taking.

Post your resume on all the job sites. Like Career builder, monster.com and craigslist. I received so many calls from doing this. I hate temp agencies or Direct placement agencies. Every job I have been offered has been due to knowing someone, that always gets me the job.

-be more careful of finding the right job for yourself
-try to get to the root cause of your depression and remove it, or at the least, mentally set it aside during your work day
-get medical help for it if you can't ..chronic depression=mental sickness, medications may help or councelling
-in the future if a job is not "right" for you... tell them honestly...you are better off leaving, rather than struggling along depressed about it and getting a bad rep.
-GL , everybody has something valuable to offer of themselves

I think you should see a doctor for your depression. Everybody has to put up with stuff at work and you are doing temp work you only have to put up with it for a few weeks suck it up. Don't go around telling people at work how depressed you are, they are not there to be your counselor.
