You're the youngest and newest in a professional teamwork environment. Management has pressured you into accepting a leadership position for the group because no one else is stepping up. You're not sure if accepting the new position will create any tension among your peers. You're afraid that your friendship before will not be the same after being their new boss. What now? Pass up the oppportunity or stay put. New position will bring more $ and responsibilities and lots more headache. Current position is worry free.

id say go for it. as long as your not bossy and all those bad qualities of a bosses then your fine. but if you really want u can ask your coworkers what you think. but heck...id say go for it...the higher management obviously thinks your good for the position....

If the pressure is put on the "youngest and newest" member of the team because no one else stepped up (including you, I assume), then they must believe that you are the best for the job. If they didn't, they would pressure the most experienced team member. You will no longer be able to be friends with just a few of your former group - you are now the boss and must treat everyone equally, or it will seem you are playing favorites. Anytime you want to go out with one or two former teammates, it should be an open invitation to the entire group.

On the other hand, if you refuse management, the offer will probably not be made again, and you will be stuck in a dead end job until you decide to move on to a different company.
