this is my first receptionsit job, and i was wonder what are the polite and correct ways to say these things.
1.) how do i tell a customer that the person they are looking for is busy (like, on the phone or they just don't want to speak to the customer - but i won't say that!), and that i can transfer them to their voicemail
2.) that the person is not in today, and that i can transfer them to their voicemail
3.) the person is on another phone call, and i can tranfer to voicemail
or any other situations that might arise?
please teach me proper receptionsit etiquette!
thank you!

I was already having a rotten morning when a coworker accidentally dropped my fresh fruit cup from the company's fridge. It was a fresh fruit cup I was so seriously looking forward to and it cost me $4.00. Should I (a) Ask for for $4.00 so I can go buy a new one (b) Forget about it (c) Ask her to buy me a replacement fruit cup tomorrow at the place I got it or (d) Let her buy me a fruit tomorrow from the place of her choice? Seriously this was one awesome looking fresh fruit cup.

Me & my ex have the same friends. Thing is, they all do drugs a lot of the time, especially him (he's a dealer), but they are doing me no good and I really can't handle the come down any more.

I did some this weekend for first weekend in weeks and it resulted in 3 days off work, feeling like I was nothing and asking the horrible bully ex boyfriend back (who said no, and made me feel even worse).

I've been suffering depression and know that the drugs and especially the ex have been adding to that, so know that I need to cut them out to move on and get better.

But I can't cut him out if we have mutual friends can I? Unless I cut out the friends too. We are all booked on a holiday to Ibiza which is going to be dg-fuelled and I'm worried about the effect it'll have on me when I get back.

It's the first time in my life I've had proper friends of my own, but I can't deal with the party lifestyle.

I feel so sad - is the only option to cut him & friends out? :-(

I think its rude! If you spend time answering someones question, you probably won't be the first response. But if they don't pick themselves it goes to voting. And people lazily pick the first answer.

in a formal/business situation? for example you have received business correspondences with her 1st & last name and later you need to talk to her on the phone, not knowing her maritaql status, how would you address her? Using the 1st name would seem inappropriate in this type of setting but idk.

I bought a sun dress for my neice and my sister said "she cant wear that to School" I said "why" she replied "It dont have sleves".

I find some schools are very picky and some are not. Dont get me wrong picky is a very good pratice that sadly most young females dont follow.

My question is, should every School have a dress code like my neices PUBLIC School ...
* nothing above the knees
* nothing sleeveless
* nothing even remotly transparent
* no shoes that shoe toes
* no half shirts, stomach must be fully covered

let me know what think.

My ex used to manipulate me on a grand scale. He used to shout and swear at me, humiliate me in public and chipped away at my self esteem.

I saw him for the first time this weekend, and went looking gorgeous and held my head up high. He followed me around the entire evening, kept trying to touch me and talking to my friends that he usually doesn’t spend any time with. I kept it together and just gave him the tiniest of acknowledgement.

Last night I cracked and text him to say that I missed him. He replied he did too, that it was great to see me, that I looked gorgeous and that he’d always have strong feelings for me and that he couldn’t wait until Ibiza (group friend holiday).

I asked him back, stupidly, and he said no. Thing is, if he had put even the slightest bit of effort in, I’m sure things would be good, but he just continued to do things he knew upset me.

He cut me out of his life to make things easier for him, then last week kept texting and e-mailing saying

My sister is giving me a housewarming party for my first home. I basically have all of the household items that I need. I don't want to get a bunch of repeated gifts or items that I don't need. Would it be tacky to just request gift cards?

I work in a building with a reception area. There's a lady in reception who is constantly looking at me, constantly glaring at me. I'm only a temporary staff, we've had no arguments or anything. What gives? She's significantly older than me, but very slim and very well dressed. Could it be a jealousy thing?
What can I do? It's starting to get to me - I get someone like this in every office I work at.

I'm not trying to pass myself off as a saint (FAR from it...), but whenever I try to help people, they give me attitude for it. Really, what's wrong with people these days? Is the entire world so full of sh'it that they can't get past their pride? Is everyone so concerned about themselves that they think they are the ones in the right all the time? And when you try to stand up for what is morally right, you get flak anyways! Or is it just me...? Penny for your thoughts.

If a guy was working for someone on their lawn, would it be disrespectful for him to go shirtless if it was hot outside? Is it disrespectful for a guy to go shirtless, on someone elses property just because of the heat outside? Should that guy ask permittion to go shirtless, if he has to work outside for someone and doesn't want to sweat in a shirt?

I work outside in the heat sometimes, and can't figure out if other people find this disrespectful or not.
