I just had a french manicure which was $10 and I tipped the person $3 dollars. I know 15% is about $2 but would that have been too little? Also, the person gave me excellent service and I will be going there again in the future, but at the same time I don't want to give grossly excessive tips. Thanks! :)

I had planned a trip to Hampton Beach this Saturday with some friends. But, as of right now, it looks like its gonna rain. I already stated that the rain date would be Sunday, but are Sundays not good beach days because it is more of a private, family day? And should I tell them now, or wait a couple of days to ensure that the forecasted weather is correct?

I just got a new job as an event booth operator, where I travel to weddings and parties. The work is not easy, I dress up, troubleshoot the booth, and try to seamlessly blend into the event. My boss says that I am not able to put up a tip jar, or directly ask the client for a tip...however, we are able to receive them if they are offered. Can anyone think of creative, tactful, pro-active ways of encouraging clients to tip without a tip jar/container OR directly asking for it from the client? I'll contact the person with the best answer to make it worth their while!

I am the maid of honor for my sisters wedding, I am planning a bridal shower for her (which means I will be spending some money on food and such), I am also going to another bridal shower for her.
I am spending about 220 on the dress, plus shoes, hair and makeup.
My question is how much should I spend on the two bridal shower gifts?
And how much should I spend on the wedding gift? My boyfriend is attending the wedding and he said we can split the gift (we have been dating 5 years so he knows my sister and her fiance well) .

How much is reasonable??? Also keep in mind that I am still in college and barely getting by on my own, but I am willing to spend quite a bit.

I am leaving my job and moving to a new city. I'm pretty sure that my boss will ask me to leave my new contact information so that the person taking over my position can call or email me whenever questions come up. I don't want to leave my job on bad terms, or burn any bridges, but I don't think that it is fair that I should have to make myself available to my previous employer like this, as I would probably end up having to spend a decent amount of time on the phone and answering emails. Is there any polite way to communicate to them that I would really prefer to be contacted only in connection with something very important, or preferably, not at all? (The city that I am moving to is located in a time zone that is 6 hours later than where I am currently located, so this could mean receiving frequent phone calls, until fairly late into the evening...) I wouldn't mind helping out, but I don't want to be taken advantage of. Would it be unreasonable if I asked to be paid for my time?

I'm going to a wedding (out of state) in August. My friend registered at a few different places, but I would rather give her cash. Is this considered acceptable, or would it be tacky?

I recently moved to FL, but I am flying back to my hometown to attend family events. My ex-gf called me and wanted to get together at a restaurant. I agreed, even though my time is stretched thin, with a graduation & b-day. A few days later my ex-gf calls and says it would be nice if I pay for the whole meal (hers&mine) since gentlemen pay like my other ex-bf does (he broke up with her, just prior to this call, he was originally coming too). She then told me it costs her gas to drive to the restaurant, since it is closer to my mom's house (5 min drive) then to her house (20 min drive), plus her hours at her employer got reduced, and I make more then she does, 55k. I don't have extra $$ to throw around, I got moving expenses and loans. My parents offered to take me out for free because they know money is tight for me right now. My ex says I don't manage money well like she does, since she has savings. I suggested canceling plans, and she demanded I spend some time with her.

My girlfriend is currently doing a health and safety course. Yesterday I spent the whole day sorting out little diy jobs in her house whilst she was away. I made a nice dinner, prawn salad to start and salmon done with lemon and dill and laid the table with a candle in the middle. I thought it would be nice to open a bottle of wine and sit at the table talking about her course. I grabbed an ordinary looking bottle of red out of her wine rack, opened it and waited for her to come home. When she got home she hit the roof and said she had been saving that bottle for several years for a special occassion. ooops! I can understand her being a bit disappointed but I was only trying to be nice. She spent all evening muttering to her self in the kitchen "of all the bottles to open". We didn't eat at the table and really argued. I apologised until I was blue in the face. But she said I was like a child saying sorry all the time with no idea of how hurt she was! Is it just me or was she harsh!

i searched for questions about smoking n there were quite a number. i respect that.
the only thing that i do not understand is that, there are a lot of people with basically nothing better to do with their lives giving unwanted advice and insults to smokers.
i know it gives me cancer and it kills me and everything, but what right do you have to insult my choice of actions.

if i or the person asking the question is blowing smoke all over your face, you have undeniable right to punch him in the face or kick him where it really hurts...
but, the person asking the question is unknown to you, probably lives hundreds of miles away, wouldn't come across you in your lifetime, and you still feel that it's your job to insult him and give your supposedly 'professional advice'.
and geniuses who have figured out that only idiots smoke, to hell with you brainless dimwits...
i'm a fifth year medical student, top ten in my batch, and i'm proud to say that i am happy smoker.

they don't do job interviews it's relatively a yes or no to the boss. They just kind of go off of the info from a basic application.
would it be okay if I called or better if I go in person?
Because my boyfriend uses our only car to get to work and where I need to go is about 20 minutes away.
my friend got hired at a postiton that would be above me IF i get hired, but he doesnt get a say in who to hire.
anyway, he was telling me this guy we know went in and asked about the job and she hired him on the spot (drug test pending)
So he told me to go in and ask her about it tomorrow.
also, would it be better to go in the morning or when?
any suggestions?

My Friend went to Italy and near the end of her stay there, stayed in a monastery. The room was blessed and had a cross in it on the wall. Her room mate was not catholic and said the cross 'creeped her out' and therefore took it off the wall and put it in a drawer. My friend put it back up and would not let her remove it again. Who was in the right?

My ex-bf committed suicide on Sat. His memorial service is Wed. We spent 7 years together, but that was five years ago. The relationship was very stormy; he was controlling and abusive. We managed to part on good terms, which was good since we worked in the same industry and sometimes crossed paths. I have forgiven him for his actions towards me, and we maintained a cordial, almost business like relationship. I am very upset about his suicide. The thought of going to the memorial service is making me ill. On one hand, perhaps I should be a 'big girl' - I mean, nobody wants to go to a funeral. But it took me a long time to heal from the abuse, and I feel like seeing his family ( that I was never close with),his wife who saw me as a threat (no reason ), and dealing with seeing people from my old, bad life ( that I had left behind) is going to rip open a bunch of issues for me. I have sent flowers to his wife and his family, and will write them letters. Can I skip the service?

Can someone please give me some good advice on how to deal with a master manipulative child. My friends daughter thows these huge temper tantrums when she doesnt get her way and she is getting to the point that she is making life hell for her single mother. She screams and cries and yells awful things such as "I hate you"at her mom and she is only 4. She is at the end of her rope and I have talked to her, but I am unexperienced with defiant children. Mine are well behaved so I can only offer so much advice to her. If anyone has dealt with this and overcome it, please let me know what worked for you.
