i searched for questions about smoking n there were quite a number. i respect that.
the only thing that i do not understand is that, there are a lot of people with basically nothing better to do with their lives giving unwanted advice and insults to smokers.
i know it gives me cancer and it kills me and everything, but what right do you have to insult my choice of actions.
if i or the person asking the question is blowing smoke all over your face, you have undeniable right to punch him in the face or kick him where it really hurts...
but, the person asking the question is unknown to you, probably lives hundreds of miles away, wouldn't come across you in your lifetime, and you still feel that it's your job to insult him and give your supposedly 'professional advice'.
and geniuses who have figured out that only idiots smoke, to hell with you brainless dimwits...
i'm a fifth year medical student, top ten in my batch, and i'm proud to say that i am happy smoker.

i'm not saying smoking is good for health or that it doesn't kill you, i agree with these
SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, And May Complicate Pregnancy.
SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Quitting Smoking Now Greatly Reduces Serious Risks to Your Health.
SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking By Pregnant Women May Result in Fetal Injury, Premature Birth, And Low Birth Weight.
SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Cigarette Smoke Contains Carbon Monoxide.
i also believe in and practice not smoking in the presence of non-smoker[no one has to get lung cancer for my choices]
but, my choices are my choices. i have every right to smoke and no body can stop me.
thank you.

don't talk about logic when you come in between some random other person and his right.
what happened to respect for each other and 'mind your own-goddamn- business'?
what happened to bloody common sense?

jayden L, i must thank you for writing here. you have presented a different perspective that i have failed to see earlier. foolish of me to believe those studies. to hell with all the sheep who follow the unbased, flawed studies of the government and anti-smoking[and anti-ETS]movements.
thanks again.

To quote Voltaire, "I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it."
I do not consider myself a "smoker," I only partake on very rare occasions (one, once a year or so) when I am very stressed out and ready to hurt someone, literally. I actually disagree with smoking for the most part, but I'll be damned if I force my views or opinions on someone else and take away their liberty.
You know, as far as I recall, I remember hearing somewhere that all of these studies of how dangerous second hand smoke was, all came from the same place. I'll include a few websites in the sources to look at.
I know that in Kentucky, smokers are included under discrimination laws, which I strongly agree with, because they are being discriminated against, a lot. But, no one seems to care about the "evil, heartless smokers who are exposing the world and killing them!"
I am the child of two smokers, one of three. You're told that smoking during pregnancy can retard mental and physical growth, yes? Hah. Our average length at birth was 23 inches, and 8-9 lbs. and our average IQ, when tested in our youth, was easily in the superior range (130's). If this is true, I wonder how large we would have been (for our poor 5 foot-two mother), and how intelligent we would have been.
My personal beliefs on smoking are that those who are prone to weakness will have the most effects. The weaker a person's constitution/system is, the more likely they are to be affected by smoke.
I may be incorrect, and I shall accept if I am; but, if these studies were all true for everyone, why would my siblings and I be very healthy specimins when exposed to second-hand smoke, so thick that you could see the light streaming in through windows, for over eighteen years?
If you're a happy smoker, enjoy it. The government and our fellow man seek to remove more and more of our liberties in return for a socialist or communist country. There are worse things in life than smoking; being self-righteous, hypocritical, and close-minded immediately come to mind.
The fourth one is good, it actually has someone who disagrees with smoking, yet can't find any logical way to make the "studies" done so far hold water.

It is hard to belief that a 5th year medical student, top ten batch, really is a happy smoker. My belief is; It is you own free choice to do with your body as you wish, as long you are not harming others. If you think your likely demise from long cancer will not effect you friend and family, go smoke and be happy [for the time being]

Personal choice is good, but it should be a smart choice. You seem to be aware that smoking is basically death waiting to happen, but yet continue to smoke anyway. Does anyone else see the lack of logic here?

If you want yellow fingers and teeth, go ahead and smoke. If you want to look bad and smell bad, go ahead and smoke. If you want to have to go outside in all kinds of weather, go ahead and smoke. If you want your house and car to stink, go ahead and smoke. If you want to take the chance you will burn something down like your house, go ahead and smoke. Don't worry, be happy. Being ostracized is good too.

It should be your right to smoke outside, in your own home and in privately owned places. However, it is my right to voice my opinion that it is a disgusting, ugly, smelly, useless waste of money. Your right to smoke does not trump my right to free speech. :-)
