My pet hate is having to answer the phone when your either preparing a meal, or in the middle of eating it, by someone who is spruiking for some business.
My other pet hate is trying to understand what they are trying to sell.
My poor mother in law was harassed by one person. Because she could not hear properly (she is near deaf), so she hung up on them after telling them she could not hear. This rotten man would yell at her etc, and ring very late at night. She was beside herself as what to do, as the police was unable to do any thing at the time, as it was an over seas call service. My daughter blew a whistle down the phone, a few times. Thankfully it stopped.
I have a silent phone number, and they would still ring. So I changed companies and told them, if I pay for the privilege of a silent phone no, then give me the decency of not giving out my phone no. Thankfully they have kept there word.
Australia recently set up a do not call register, within hours of being launched the services was over whelmed with people trying to register.

I had a call tonight right on 6.30pm, tea time. It isn't just the telemarketers from India that piss me off it's the ones from my own country. When I answer the phone and hear all the talk in the background I ask "are you a telemarketer?" when they say "yes", I say #%&* off... and hang up. Or tell them to get a real job that doesn't include invading people's privacy. I know everyone has to work, but there is no place in the world for telemarketers. If you want to gain business, advertise your company at your own expence and leave me the hell alone... The thing with our Do Not Call register means that we aren't totaly excempt from charities and other stuff and they can still call us on weekends. I was going to sign up for this, but there is no way to prevent the Do Not Call register from selling my number so I would probably receive more un welcome calls.

I live in the West Coast of U.S.A, and am on the do-not-call list. I still get calls from telemarketers, police/fire dept/veterans association, sherriff's association, leukamia society, Red Cross etc between 6 - 9 pm, which is "dinner time".
So, the bad manners of calling at mealtimes is not limited to "Indian call centers". It is more widely prevalant. Yes, it is irritating. I just hand the phone to my 1.5 yr old.

Do the foreign call centres realise that calling people in INDIA at their meal time bad manners?
The mealtime all over the world are not same. And in the fields of business this should be understood.
I would just heat up my meals in oven if I was in your place. But mind you it is difficult to heat up Indian meal which usualy consists of 4 to 9 items.

Do people who get telemarketing calls not understand that they don't HAVE to listen to the call?
You can hang up. If you're stupid enough to let your meal get cold, that's YOUR fault.
Besides, what, exactly, IS "mealtime"? In our home, we never eat at the same time every day...
Why are you so controlled by your PHONE that you can't so, "Not interested", and hang up?

Do not blame the Indians at the call center. The company that outsourced the work to people who are completely culturally incompatible with you are showing that they don't care about your needs or your business.
I left AOL for precisely that reason.

Dude,
I am an Indian. But when looking things black and white, I would say that Call Center Executives are a nusiance for the US, UK and the Crickey people.
I was working in an Outbound Call Center which markets Platinum Cards and Mortage Solutions... We used to call all sorts of people irrespective of any time. The only thing that we target is "SALES". We do not bother about the time. The fact behind this is PRESSURE.
We face enormous pressure from our Team Leaders. We got to make sales... Sales... Sales... Sales... We only think of it and nothing else due to this pressure...
We do know that this would not be the apt time for calling people, but still we get an urge to make a sale and do it.
I take this as an oppurtunity to ask Sorry to all those, whom I have waken up to sell my product at odd times, to those who lost their patience on me, to those who have shouted F**k U, to those I've lied on my product, etc...
Long live Call Centers. Long Live US & UK customers!!!

Why do Americans get mad at Telemarketers with Indian Accent?
The call centers should advise not to disturb people at lunch hours.

Good manners is not an issue to these pests! All they're interested in is the couple of rupees they get for being pains in the ar se!
As soon as I hear a time delay and/or one of those fake Yank accents from downtown Bombay, I say "not interested" and hang up. I refuse to do business with any of these pestilential cold callers.

What a lot of fuss about getting telephone calls at mealtimes. Yes it certainly is annoying, and its not only Indian call centres that do it, lots of individuals know that its a good time to catch you in, ignorant buggers.
The answer is very simple, and I can assure you that it works every time.
Just don't lift the receiver. Try it and you will find its infallable.
