Honestly, if you are at dinner (home or out), going to a movie, sitting in a meeting, or anyplace where your attention should be elsewhere, shut the cell phone off. No matter how important you think you are, you aren't.

well last night before i was leaving work i had to use the loo and noticed an unpleasent smell so i walked into the bathroom and there was a bit of poop on the floor that i nearly walked in. anyway i grabbed lots of plastic bags and paper towels and disposed of it properly. those kind of things don't bother me because i used to care for an elderly person but i know it was the cleaners job but i just could take seeing it there. i didn't touch it! so did i do the right thing?

I have a online professor with the first name of Tupelo and I'm not sure if I should address my e-mails as Mr. or Mrs. (The teacher has not made any distinction, nor is he/she listed under the Rate My Professors website).

Any help would be great to avoid an embrassing situation!

I'm a Filipina happily married living here in the UK. I like in here cause I have my own privacy. I feel independent & people here are less nosy (actually i don't think they're being nosy at all) . Once in a while I chat with my relatives (cousins & Aunts) on YM. I know it's normal if they ask you, how are you? and normally you return the question to them. But I don't think it's alright to ask what my husband is up to with his job? Where is he working , if he still working in the same company & once they asked me how much is his salary? When you'll going to have baby? Why not now? I never ask them personal question cause I believe it's none of my business. I don't know why they are being nosy? I also noticed that, if you return the questions to them. They just shut up or give you very little detail on what's going on with them. But if I do the same thing, they will just just rephrase the question which obviously they're trying to squeeze me
Please help me on how to deal with them?

I work for a chicken joint (I won't disclose the name here) and I see many violations. The workers rarely ever wear hairnets. The cooks and managers throw empty cardboard boxes that are flattened on the floor. A lot of us employees trip over those boxes and sometimes with hot things in our hands such as biscuit trays or greasy food from the fryer. Any injuries reported to the boss are NEVER reported further or checked on after they are initially reported. We have teenagers who work after 11pm and often times they work a full-time schedule. Even when school was still in session. Please help... I don't want to lose my job, but I don't like what I see either!

I work in retail and the majority of customers come into the store, make a mess, and can't manage to clean up after themselves. I didn't kno i was paying to be a slave you know? For example, customers comes, tries on shoes, leaves them all on the floor, and leaves the store.

Fellow bartenders, I know this has happened to you. You make a drink. You know you made it right. You might have even employed the use of a jigger instead of freepouring. The guest complains that the drink isn't strong enough or a server comes back and tells you that their guest says that it isn't strong enough. You offer to make the drink a double but they don't want to have to pay for the extra alcohol. I've resorted to making LITs in 9 oz glasses instead of 14 oz and making cosmos that didn't even fill half the martini glass just to shut these idiots up. Don't be pissed off at me because I made a drink right and you had to pay $6 for it. If you want your drinks to be overly stout and still cheap, stay at home and leave me the hell alone. P.S. This does not apply to all of you out there who make drinks weaker than they are supposed to be.

The details of this is..I am deciding on leaving my job but I like it allot and the people are nice. However, I hit snag when I took a week off from being sick and since then I have been picked on because of it and every time someone brings up vacation time, I get the "don't even ask for vacation"? This has been said seriously and kiddingly but frankly I am upset and confused how my boss can be so frank. I have been here for over a year and I am eligible for a vacation after a year.
So I asked "stupidly" (as that was the look I got) if I could take vacation in Nov. That was shot down and then she said "I'll think about it and get back to me? She also said if I go on vacation that maybe there would be someone in my seat when I returned?? How should I take this...I take things personally as it is and being with them this long you become a second family..should I sit down and chat or give my two weeks?

Sincerely,
Hurt one.

Ann Landers was busy. So it's up to you guys. My dad's getting remarried on June 30th. I'm going on vacation to California from the 19th-29th, tickets already purchased. He told me that there's a rehearsal dinner on the 29th at 6pm after I purchased the tickets. My flight gets in at 5:30pm, so that gives me half an hour (through baggage claim and the 30 minute taxi ride through rush hour traffic) to get to the dinner. I know at this point that I'll be late. I'm not in the wedding, except for a small reading. I tried to change the flight, but they all jumped up to $300 and up. I feel horrible, but he told me so late. I feel like I should change the tickets, but it's so much money. What would you do?

I've always wanted to be one of those people who makes others feel good about themselves, that people like to be around. I want to be, you know, warmer. I want people to be able to tell that I love and care about them. But I always come across as apathetic. What can you do to make other people feel good? What makes you want to be around someone? How do you love people?
