The classic would be that the man walks on the right side of the woman. This comes from times when men still wore swords. Walking like this he had his sword hand free to protect the woman.
Nowadays it is often considered as polite if the man walks between the traffic and the lady.
But as these things lose importance it comes to personal taste.

Since I'm the girl I hook mine into his arm, and 9 times out of 10 I will stand on his right, but I will hold his hand on either side.

Traditionally it has been that the man is on the street side, the lady on the side closest to the buildings. The reasoning? So that the man will absorb the splash of mud from the horses and carriages as they go by. It's a nice tradition and shows you care.

left, and I got treated rudely at a baseball game by some prejudiced woman for holding hands with my bf - even though that's as far as we take our PDAs, some people cannot appreciate that we limit our PDA, and are still offended by little innocent ones. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.

The woman (married or dating) should always be on your right side. If you are just friends, then she should be on your left.

Which ever side the traffic is on, usually. In buildings, generally on my left.
