The situation you present here is "when eating at company's house."

The POLITE thing to do is eat the spaghetti "as presented" and not ask your host(tess) to go for a bottle of maple syrup. Your host(tess) went to the trouble of preparing the food for you to enjoy, and unless you have some dietary difficulty with digesting spaghetti without the accompaniment of maple syrup, ketchup, mustard, or any other "non-present" accoutrement, the polite thing to do is enjoy the meal "as is." You can always make more pasta later AT HOME and pour ALL the syrup on it you'd like. But while you are a guest at someone's home, don't bother them with your peccadillos.

Oh, and twirlling spaghetting onto a fork with the aid of a spoon is still perfectly acceptable!

Maple syrup on spaghetti? On top of sauce or not? I suppose it depends on how well you know the people and how old you are. If you're like 12 then I don't think it would be a big deal. If you're 21 then I could see where it would seem awkward especially if the host spent a lot of time making spaghetti sauce.

It's not rude but you would seem strange, plus you would have to get past asking the host/hostess to give you some maple sugar to put on your spaghetti.

okay, I think I may throw up a little. If that is the way you like it then have at it. I have seen people put different things on food that I wouldn't eat but then they may not like what I eat.

Of course not! We elves have to stick to the 4 basic food groups... candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup!
